yeah, so for my 21st birthday because I don't really think I'll be able to go to Las Vegas I think I'm going to celebrate one of my other rights as a 21 year old. I want to buy a handgun, but I'm not too sure what I want to get.

what handguns do you guys have and what do you like? I shot my friend's glock 17 the other day and I liked it just a little more than my dad's beretta 92fs, I like the feel of the beretta, but I like the trigger feel of the glock. I also like the simplicity of the whole gun as well.

I'm thinking I'll get a 9mm because ammo is cheap for it so I won't ever need to feel like it costs too much to go shooting.

I like 9's, and provided you're a good shot (or at least decent), a bullet to the head/neck/dick will stop anyone in their tracks. A leg or gut shot from a 9 can be overcome, and the reason people talk about the lack of stopping power.
I don't like larger calibers because kick becomes serious. And - glocks are my favorite. The 19 is a good size for me, I'm 5'8" and 170.

What to do: Go to a shooting range and ask about gun rentals. Most places rent out a gun for $10-12, or have a "try case" (or something named to the same effect) where you pay $20-25, and can swap guns as often as you like, you just buy ammo. I've shot everything from a CZ 9 to a Taurus (nice gun also) to a Sig and a Desert Eagle .50 in the same day. Still like the glocks.

Glock offers 5 different models of 9mm.
Glock 17 (http://www.glock.com/g17.htm)
Glock 19 (http://www.glock.com/te_g19.htm)
Glock 26 (http://www.glock.com/g26.htm) "The Baby Glock"
Glock 34 (http://www.glock.com/g34.htm)
and finally
Glock 18 (http://www.glock.com/g18.htm) Which is full-auto and you can't buy one.

The 17 and 19 are good target guns for weekend fun. The 34 is a bit too large for my taste. The 26 "Baby Glock" is my personal choice for concealment purposes. The 18 is a blast to fire, but not very practical in my opinion. Your best bet is to go out and fire many different weapons before you decide which one you like. Good luck and stay safe.

If you can afford one of the "C" models, you get Glocks patented recoil compensation technology. Not only does it work, it looks pretty friggin cool too. :keke:

Actually, if you get a skin tight leather suit like that one pictured.. you can pretty much flaunt the size (or lack of size) of your genitals

Its just that I dont get how can anyone want a gun period. I just dont see the logic in glorifying the tool of the devil unless you're in the service or if you're a police officer why the hell is it that normal civilians want guns for???

Happy early birthday Dannnnnn........

Anyway, I own a pretty decent collection of shot guns and pistols. Right now my Remington shotty with an assault folding stock and Smith and Wesson .40 sub compact pistol are at the shop being cleaned so I can't take pictures of them.

I've taken my shotgun and my S&W SW99 .40 out to the range and I love the compact feel but being a .40 the bastard just jumps around like crazy, hard to get good groupings with that pistol.

I just picked this .40 Sig Sauer P229 the other day and I want to go shooting with it, didn't go with the compact size this time but should be good when I do take it out. Go with a .40 man, 9's are overated and weak...haha...bullets are cheap though :) http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/1421/yikes6tx.jpg

the men that founded our country felt it was important for the people to have the right.

a gun is only the tool of the devil if it is wielded by the devil. And he has fire and demons and shit, I don't think lucifer needs a 9.

Civilians want guns because a. they're stress-relieving to shoot at a range and b. the crime rate in areas where guns are either banned or severely restricted is higher than that of areas where guns are allowed or have less restriction. That's a fact backed up by real statistics.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Cars are used by some as weapons, should we outlaw them? Maybe steak knives too? Piano wire? Fertilizer? Aircraft?

Dan, you know you want a .45. Kimber offers a .22LR or .17HMR conversion kit for most 1911s so you could practice with cheap ammo but keep some .45 JHP around for home defense. I'm planning on buying a Kimber sometime soon so if you want to wait and see if you like it we could go to the range I'm a member of and I'd let you put a few mags through it.

I used to like the 92/96 series but since I shot one at a gun show I was sorely disappointed. I don't know what was tweaked but I couldn't hit jack, when I was destroying targets left and right with 9mm/.40/.45ACP/.45GAP Glocks, full-framed and micro-framed 1911s, CZs, HKs, and even with every shot I put through a Desert Eagle .50. (Although I didn't hit anything with the S&W wheelgun chambered in .500. I just wanted to feel that thing kick, so I just pointed it downrange at nothing in particular.) Having a gun off that bad just doesn't really do it for me as far as quality goes; my friend and my father both complained that it didn't shoot for crap as well as a guy in line so I don't think it was me.

You've seen me in real life at the Fusion meets and I'm not a burly dude but the .45s don't even phase me. Hell, the .50AE wasn't even that stout. I'm kinda partial to .40 because of my friend's dad's .40 race 1911 but I love the stopping power of the .45 ACP, although with more potent loadings the recoil can make target reacquisition a bit slow. I've shot damn near every popular caliber (.357 Mag, .357 Sig, 9mm, .40, .45ACP, .45GAP, .460, .50AE, .500) and like the .40 and .45 the best, although .357 Sig is interesting and I'd really like to get my hands on a .38-caliber 1911.

yeah I don;t have much trouble with my dad's 45, I just like the price of 9 ammunition. I'll definitely be shooting a few more before I decide. I'm not too worried about the stopping power of a 45 as far as home defense, I don't have too much trouble unloading 12 rounds into the head of a target 25 feet away.

concealment is also a non-issue for me, I live in California and I don't really see myself moving away any time soon. Getting a concealed weapon permit here is a lot more hassle than I want to deal with.
