View Full Version : Car bogs on warm startups?

Car is a '92 base model hatch. Has redtop optima, recently replaced plugs and distributor cap/rotor. Also, starter doesn't seem to have much life left on it.....sometimes makes a grinding noise upon startup. Had the problem before I changed the plugs/cap/rotor.

Anyways, when my car is cold it doesn't have a problem. Starts up and eventually idles at 700rpms once it gets warmed up a bit. The problem is when I try and start it when the car is already warm. For whatever reason, the car bogs down and nearly wants to die, before hopping back up to 700rpms or so.

It never dies, but seems like it gets real close, and it's starting to bother me.

Never happens when it's cold, only when it's warmed up. Whether the car has been sitting for a bit or not, if it's warm it seems to have this issue.

Could it be due to the starter? Alternator? Plug wires? Coil? Thanks in advance for any help.

My car used to bog untill I changed the fuel filter. If you get rough idle at all I'd check the IAA valve.

What he says, I would almost promise that is what it is. The reason you replace the harness is that as well as the sensor not working it is probably rotted to sh!t.

Yes I also recently replaced the fuel, air, and oil filter+oil. There's a good chance you guys are right, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if a sensor/harness was dirty and/or rotted to hell.

Thanks fellas!
