breakindrifts

OK I feel like an idiot for posting this but I have been searching around and just wanted to ask because I think I might have the wrong studs.
Anyway long story short after doing my brakes all around, I decide to replace 2 of my studs in the front hubs.
They have been loose/stripped for awhile, so I take a look at the hub hole after pounding the old ones out and its completly round, no grooves for the stud.
Anyway I pushed it out as far as I could, mounted a rim over it and starting threading the lug. Now Im using a breaker bar and it is getting VERY hard to keep torquing the lug nut. It is slowly progressing down the stud, but is it really supposed to be that hard? How much effort does it take?
Should I use an air impact to tighten it?
I have been driving around for a couple of weeks with half-seated studs and I dont want to lose a wheel at 80 mph. :-/ Help
