The car has a salvaged title. But at least i know why its salvaged..at 85k it was barely hit in the front. needed to replace the radiator core support, bumper, and driver side fender (i installed a JDM bumper and it looks waaaaaay better then USDM. And thats IT. Theres no quarter panel damage. The frame is perfectly straight.

My friends at several different shops and friends that are just into import cars are telling me that the price will go up after F&F3 comes out..

More people are into drifting now then ever before...at least in socal. And Im seeing more and more people around here with S14s now.. In my opinion, theres not enough S14 that are in good working condition to go around. everybody drifts em into walls or crashes them. From what i hear, there werent that many sold in the USA anyways.

Well then there has to be less s13's right? Man where i'm from I see more hummers than 240s and I sure as hell don't see many hummers.

same here. actually i see quite a few s13s here but not nearly as much as i see 350z or even turbo volvos..

240's are dope. too bad the cops are catching on to em. maybe i should just move to south carolina or something?

BTW, whats another good car that comes factory turbo and is RWD, excluding 300zx and skyline..?

you almost NEVER get back what you put into a car...cars loose value. Unless you got the car free and all your parts at cost or severe discount, you very rarely make $$$$.

You have to remember that your asking this question on Zilvia aka LOWBALLER CITY. Just put it up on Craigslist or the autotrader and see if you can get what YOU want for it. Remember that the market determines value, not people who already have 240s(unless they want another one and are serious about yours).

Just for reference, my friend sold his 95 with an s15 front end, extremely shitty paint, bad fiberglass fenders, rotora big brakes, Volk GTus, tein hes, blitz seats, and an extremely horrible running red top with a totally jacked up wiring harness for about 12k.(this was about 1.5 years ago) I think you have a better car than he does but the salvage title might getcha.

Invest in real estate if you are loolking to buy something, improve it, and make money. More times than not you'll lose money on cars especially, if you add to them. If you like fixing up cars and want to make money do it for other people. If you like to work on your own car and build it up plan on keeping it, or plan on selling it for less than you have in it. Occasionally you'll get lucky though and someone is looking for just what you have, and you make money...occasionally. Ask above what you really want and see if you get any offers, then gradually come down on the price. Either it's worth it for you to sell it, or it isn't.

actually i bought the car with 85k on it, a little front end damage but nothing a little body work couldnt handle. I bought it for 2300. SE, had 5 lug and everything..there was nothing missing from the car and the interior is immaculate. engine bay was immaculate. Strong KA motor. Then i did the swap and got ALL of my parts either wholesale (thanks to SP-Engineering, Phase2, & Mike from superior nissan) or below wholesale :] I already had the motor from my previous s14.5

I love my car and i dont think i can accept anything less then 12k only cus its salvaged or i would ask for 15k

Thats your main weakness right there that salvage title
Not many people (smart ones at least) buy salvaged vehicles because most of the time you cant really see how good or half assed the car was repaired.

But then again all you have to find is the right moron to pay over 14k for a 10 year old car

jdm_s14_zenki
04-21-2006, 05:16 PM
maybe a weakness if i dont at least make my money back. and finding the right moron here in socal is a lot easier then finding someone thats smart >:]
Orange county has alot of rich 16 year olds that jump on the 240sx/drifting band wagon.

I had an s14.5, completely stripped all parts off. even the vlsd, reverted it back to stock. had 190k on it. fiberglass body kit that was beat to hell. had savlaged title. sold it for 6500. (8months ago)

I had an 96 s14 with kouki conversion. a kid in santa barbara crashed it, didnt have insurance, got rid of the car. I paid him $150 bucks cash for the title (clean title) towed the car to a body shop, spent 1500 fixing it. had 180k on it. completely stock. sold for 8000 cash about a year ago.

so like i said, there arent THAT many smart people around here!

QFT. If you want to make money by building a car buy an old muscle car. 240s aren't really money makers, I would think you could probably sell your car for $9,500-10,000.

Assumming the car has a clean title and is nice as your description I would say $10K minimum, and about $12K max. My friend sold his 420rwhp 97 SE (SR swapped) for $17K about 3 years ago; another friend sold his 380rwhp 96 SE (also SR swapped) for $15K last year. First car had about 50K miles and the second had 120K; but both car were clean. 240's are great cars to build and bail on... you can easily recover 75%-80% of your money back. Yeah you'll always loose a few grand, but just write that off as the cost of having a badass car for a few years.

Salvage title = atleast 1/4 off the cars price. Every car needs to have an engine so having a sr dosent mean you can add 2k on top of the price. In your case if the engine was done properly and the other mods are in pretty good condition then it wouldn't be too hard to get 75% back of what you invested.

I'd probably would part it out unless i had a good buyer. Just saying "Salvage" on the title makes people lowball the fudge out of you then again you have people who don't know much and probably wouldn't know the difference between a salvage or clean title.

My 2 cents.

I HIGHLY dissagree with you.

Like ive said in my other post. I had an 95 s14.5 in low-average condition that had a salvaged title. 190k miles and completely stripped of all aftermarket parts. sold for $6500, and i had many offers.
How much do s14s go for??? about that and you get a CLEAN title?

How can you say that salvaged cars are "at least a 1/4 off the price" when at this point, there is no price for s14s. Have you see the blue book value on these cars compared to what people are selling them for?

And yes, Just because i have an SR means i can add 2k and even more onto it. Compare the price of MY motor, if you READ what i even had, compared to a KA motor, or even a redtop or s13 black top.

No offense, but maybe im just a better sales man, and maybe im just more optimistic. :]

well, to be fair

your thread is titled "how much do you think my car is worth"

not

"how much could i get MAX for this car by ripping off some rich 16 year old sucker"

Daniel.
04-21-2006, 11:39 PM
Well you started the thread to ask our opinion on what we think the car is worth and you disagree with us because you've already made up your mind what you're going to sell it for. What's the point of the thread then?

I will answer your question on whether the car will sell more after FnF3 comes out and i think it will.

skimming thru ur list and the thread, knowing it has a salvaged title, i think it'll still grab buyers of around 12-13k. it'll just take time.

i have your opinions and thats exactly what i wanted. i said i disagree. SO?
I agree with some, and dont agree with others. That is the point of this thread, to find an even ground and sell my car for a price that im happy with.

as for pics, ill post em up soon, im just lazy. plus right now my block is being rebuilt. and please, keep posting your opinions, even if i disagree, just gets me closer to my decision.

and im sorry if i was sounding like a dick, i just got my ass kicked in scrabble.

Yeah don't worry about the salvage title. What you also have to remember is this whole 240sx and AE86 thing thats going on has more to do with people's passions then it does with their brains. No one in their right mind would buy a 1986 toyota corolla for 5k but people are doing it right now. Same goes for the 240sx, its a scarce resource and if someone wants it bad enough, they'll pay out of their ass. Just make sure that it isn't your only car. If your desperate to sell, your more likely to give it away cheap. Make sure you have a beater and sit on the 240 till you get what you want for it.

i agree. people are paying rediculous amounts for these old cars...if drifting will take off here in the USA like it did Japan, then these cars are gonna be worth a lot more cash then theyre bluebook value. only cus theres not enough 240sx and ae86 to go around..now they gotta start fabbing suspension to make a GTO drift..well..

I remember when I first had my S14 blacktop, i couldnt find parts for the motor ANYWHERE. always had to order em, and wait, and wait..but now, i started my block rebuild on 4/18 and it will be finished tomorrow (4/22)...I went and picked up all the parts on a very short notice (4/18) and they had em all in stock!! amazing..
