14 Vehicle Speed Sensor signal circuit is open
What does that mean? Would it have anything to do with my shorter ring gear? The check engine light has been on for some time now, but I keep thinking it was EGR (had problem with it before) so i decided to check it today. But i have no idea what "speed sensor signal circuit is open means" is it a wire that is loose or a sensor needs to be replaced?
I know for fact that my speedometer is off by like 10% (going 25mph and the radar says i'm going 23mph) but that is a result of my shorter ring gear that i put into the diff. will this cause the sensor to spazz?
Any help is apperciated.

your signal is so off due to you changing your ring gear its throwing a check code. Time to take it to a speedo shop and get it recalibrated.
Though, if you do have the open circuit code I would also check for a short, but if that was so it should not be working at all.

I'm not sure changing gears would throw a code. If your speedometer is reading something, even though it's high, check the VSS wire going to your ECU.
I'm working to special order a SpeedoHealer that works with Nissan. It will plug in between your VSS and speedo, and allow you to calibrate for gear and tyre changes. I'll post results when I get it. I'm hoping they can bring the product to the Nissan mainstream and help those of us who are sourcing hard-to-find gauge clusters.

open = no current in the circuit
short = current but it took a shorter path
So U can't have an open and a short at the same time. It's one or the other.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but this is my understanding of electronics.
And where did u buy a different ring/pinion from?

You can have a wire that is damaged and shorts itself to something else. The circuit is both open (no current reaches its intended target) and short (current diverted to another unintended target).

oh, i see. Thanks for clearing that up.

so where are the wires that I should check? Because when I called a speedo shop the guy was like, if the sensor is open, than you shouldn't have a speedo reading at all.

Check this thread. He has the same problem as you.
