Ok, I just got my paycheck And with no bills exept the thought I should be saving for my GF's b-day next month I just want to get suspention kinda right now. OK, I have about 1k to spend on suspention right now. Should I go megan? Or should i just hold off alittle over a month(till i recover from my GF's presents and trip) and just get some Stances? Or save up alittle more and Get some Flex's?
I was thinking I might even wait alitte longer cause I was talking to the guys at Tien and they were telling me about there new coilover comming out this summer called the "Mono Flex", and i only wanna buy suspention once so .....what would you guys do?

how long have you been with your g/f? make her something with your "own two hands" so it shows that you "really care." remember to explain this when you give her your present. hahah, there, you saved a grip of money. now go buy your coilovers :)

My girlfriend dislikes driving in my car already cause its not as "smooth" as her civic and now she's really going to hate road trips so i was taking comfort into concideration with a suspention set-up for her.....but either way she'll still dislike the ride........but thats women......always something
I think i might just get her something from tiffanys and take her to dinner and bam!! for cash for the pockets.....but i should think greedy like that:love:

i suggest a compromise
get some fun parts for the car
strut bars
subframe spacers
etc. should scratch the itch.
take your girlfriend out and buy her something nice
have enough leftover so by the next paycheck you can get nicer coilovers then megans, and you have enough for a alignment and corner weigh

Get some KTS coilovers.....
Nan Desu Ka?!
04-19-2006, 08:02 PM
sounds like he will not need a corner wieght... so thats not really an issue ulness this is going to be a track car and such.
If you really want something that will take the itch away, get a bucket seat, its probably one of the BEST mods for the money. use the rest to get ur girl something nice, and save up for some KTS coils later.
The seat will help you really feel what your car is doing (instead of sliding all over the place and hanging onto your steering wheel for deal life) and what it isnt doing. once you know what it isnt doing, mod accordingly to compensate for those things.

+1 on the seat makes a huge improvement. I need one now
Sways also helped decrease a shitload of roll from my car
Either way save up for the coilovers you really really want. there is no sense in buying stuff twice as mentioned before

No birthday present.
Presents are for suckers.
Spend some cash money on some real coilovers and tell your lady to get over it.
Subframe spacers are nice, so are tension rods, rucas, extended tie-rods, and a real LSD.

your car will always be there....
You decide... but i agree on the seat mod.

get her a good sports bra for her birthday so the ride in your car will be more comfortable once you get some coilovers. my girl friend used to hate riding in my car, but she's used to it now. It is however very important that if you care about her and want her to stick with you, that you do something meaningful for her birthday. I guess it just depends on her.

Stance coilovers are generic S-chassis coilovers. Everyone touts them as the new shit, but they're just the old shit revisited. Welcome to marketing 101.
Seat, tires, and a nice necklace for your girl. Or seat, tires, and put the rest in the bank.

Hmmm? Care to share where you obtained this knowledge?
Id like to know also. Only a handful of people are actually running them and only a few have reviewed them. There arent any dyno plots yet so its hard to make a judgement just yet. Ive been following the stance coilovers both here and on ziptied and the people who run them have had nothing bad to say about them whatsoever. Assumptions turn into misinformation which speards quickly over the internet. Id hate for people to base their judgement off someones assumptions. Care to elaborate?
BTW, im not trying to be a dick or anything, just wanna make things clear for myself and others.

I'd be down for this also. I mean, i wouldn't be surprised. it doesn't look that much different that some of the other brands, but WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE SHOCK DYNO COMPARISONS?!?!

Okay, let's pretend for a second. Pretend you own a small company and want to get in on the lucrative automotive aftermarket, namely suspension. Also pretend that you have access to suppliers for pretty much everything you want. You want nice profit margins and a product for which demand is high. What do you make? SA coilovers that go low, low, low. How do you make them? Any number of ways, but one thing is sure: they have to be satisfactory for a wide range of sprung weights, unsprung weights, and road surfaces. Thus, you have to compromise performance.
Here are some facts: piston diameter is not listed on the website. Spring manufacturer is not listed on the website. Damper dynos are not listed on the website. List price is under $1300. Stance is a new entry into the coilover market.
Consider all the above and I ask you now: could Stance really be all that different?

Still though, this is still speculation. None of us actually know how they perform. What are you basing your comparisons on? Im not sure what you actually mean by generic? Im sure people dont categorize stance in the same level as pro dd/seven tanabes, flta2, cuscos or zeal. Or do they? Economics and the lack of information provided aside, i guess were just gonna have to wait and see.
BTW, heres the latest reviews on stance for those who arent up to date.

Not to go off topic here but, get your girl something she'll really like. Then, save your money till you actually know what you want. If you rush into it or settle, sometimes youll wish you woulda waited and got something better and did it right the first time. Oh well, live and learn. In the end its up to you, its your car and your money.

I say figure out what your going to be doing with this car. If it is a daily driver, I'd say shocks a springs. Get a good set, and the correct springs so you do not blow the shocks. If you looking to do a little tracking, then get some semi stiff springs, but not so stiff that the ride sucks. I'm currently looking at rs-r race and TI2000 springs, as well as Swift springs to compliment my nicly priced kyb agx's. I'm looking for a reliable daily driver that CAN track if wanted. If your gonna be doing most of your driving ON a track then go with coilovers. Theres really no sense to me in spending a good $1500 on coilovers if you rarly go to the track. You can use your money on other mods like sway bars, stut bars, Tie rods, etc. Think about your ultimate plan for your vehicle and go from there. Don't waste money on something you don't need, hence coilovers if this car is your DD. Just my 2 cents. And the girl thing, day at the spa, dinner, and party in the birthday suit. Pending on how long you been with her go tiffanys to.

About the girl: if you think you'll be together for a while longer, bother with the expensive stuff. If the forecast is crappy, don't spend much. You'll regret it.

I swear to god, present giving is not to be encouraged, ESPECIALLY if this is going for long term.
It's a conditioned behavior that you can change. My g/f doesn't expect anything from me, and in return when she gets something shes appreciative and surprised(which of course gets me a surpised I appreciate).
I'm sorry nobody asked this yet but what the hell are you going to use this car for? Daily driving?

Good good info guys!! Well, I have about 1 month till her birthday which means 2 paychecks(-bills) so I think I will have plenty for her b-day(depending if we don’t take a road trip to San Fran)…So currently I have about (around) $1,200(maybe more if I use my savings…which I kinda don’t wanna) to spend on coils so I am doing lots of research for:
-Silk Roads-$1,325(Don’t know if I like the idea about shipping to Japan for rebuild in future, heard good things, I just don’t have the time and a 2nd car)
-Tein Flex-$1,395(I've heard good and bad reviews….so still looking up, but I like the idea of EDFC)
-Stance-$1,175(Heard good stuff, but mostly from just the Enjuku guys but one barely placed Top 16[Im not hating] and they raved about Megan's 4ever so they usually always give kudos to there beloved products)
-KTS-$999(Sounds like a Bang for Buck, heard nothing but good things and + I'll have money left for alignment)
-Megan-$900(I think out of the picture, Also, NOT HATING…but I just think my 1st luv(my s13) deserves alittle better)
So…this is were I stand, but im gonna get some coils within a few days so….If anyones got some more 2cents to throw in….feel free!!

If your G/F "waxes your undercarriage" then buy her a present before your suspension..
If not, get a set of springs and some koni's.

Dude if you have 1200 to spend just on suspension without dipping into your savings its quite obvious what your choice is
KTS ($1000+$75 alignment) so many people have them and I have not heard one complain yet
Silk roads-->are gonna take forever if something happens to them
Stances---> are so new not that much people really know if they are THAT good
Teins --->mmmhh whatever, EDFC is for vaginas

VLSD/LSD first, then coilovers. I got coilovers first and was rewarded with getting stuck in peoples' driveways because I lifted a wheel and scraped my bumper at the same time.
All the above coilovers are good entry-level coilovers, except the Megans. The Megans are more like preschooler-level than entry-level. Good choice in not accepting the compromise.
I have the KTS coilovers and have had them since September 2004. I have no complaints about them as entry-level coilovers. They have served me well in the functions for which they are designed.

I'd say Stance would be a good drifter coilover, as it was researched and customized by Dave @ Touge Factory from what I read.
I believe he mainly "designed" the coilovers to cater to the drift crowd, seeing as the damping seems to be pretty stiff (from what I've read so far, on par with JIC FLT-A2s), spring rate up there in the 8/6 range (valved for 9/7s I think), and they can go low as hell (no need to take collars out, and the shock travel is pretty short).
Just from the reviews alone I'm already leaning more towards Stance (previously KTS), but I'd really like to see the shock dyno and get some long term reliability feedback (think Johnny5 said his KTS blew pretty quick due to his car being so damn low, so definitely want to know if Stance has that kind of problem or not).

That’s the only thing, everyone that has reviewed stance coilovers just happens to be selling it. I see reviews from all the Enjuku guys and Touge Factory guys but has anyone riden on these that arent selling em or racing for someone selling them?
