I was on the 240sx.org install page and i decided to try out the electric fan mod. Well I popped off the bracket and couldnt get any further , b/c i cant seem to work out the relay out of the bracket.
But is this mod really worth it?
Anyone out there that has done this, would you recommend it or is it just a pain in the ass for a whole hell of a lot of nothing?
any feedback is appreciated

well, on my friends s-10 board they almost swear by it as very worthwhile .. his is in the mail so i could let you know what it really does... but sorry i dont have a for sure for ya on 240's i would assume they would be about the same gains... 2.2 for them 2.4 for us..

I would think minimal gains. probably better rev-ability if anything. I'm probably gonna do it just so I have more room in there to get to the belts and such.

Well I went back and tried to get the relay off of the bracket and I cant get it through the bottom. So I am just giving up before I break something.
Thanks guys for your info.

i did it, and i didn't bother w/ the relay, 'cause 91+ 240's have a heat sensor that turns the electric fan on when it's too hot? so yah, the underhood temp went up the ass! so i'm all paranoid 'bout my car now... but from the theory, you shall gain more top end power

since we are talking about fans which electrical fan can anybody suggest for me to get? i have an s13 w/sr20det with the stock intercooler and piping so i don't know if that will play a role in how i can mount the fan.

stock fan runs on the engine..menaing it's parasitic drag...by taking if off the engine has less inertia 2 get over....meaning more hp..dun expect huge hp jumps except if ur way up there <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
I did this to my s14 Turbo and would have to reccomend against it. You WILL NOT notice any gain from this and IMO it more then likely wont decrease you engine temp.
My biggest concern was that the fan only worked with the ignition in, so when my turbo timer kept the car running it would turn off the fan and just run my motor and killing the point of using the turbo timer.
If you could wire it right then I would reccomend it, but I would like to get a dual fan kit made to fit the whole radiator. The stock one is just to small IMO.

i took off my mech fan and it was worth it....in the winter time, but i did it half assed and didn't buy an electrical fan. i know my car very well and when i took off the fan and gave it a test drive, i could feel a difference 1000 to 4000 rpm. that with removing the power steering belt (and having the JUN flywheel), i could start off slow in 1st, then hit the throttle and i could get wheelspin (very very little wheelspin but hey). but like i said, make sure to get a fan, because i'm paying for it now. that mechanical fan is in there for a reason. now that it's "heapin' hot", in bumper to bumper traffic i must drive around with the heat on and the defroster on until reinstall the fan. yes, i've been coming home one pissed off person after work lately.
