i recently put in some used HKS coils, RUCAS, rear toe arms, T/C arms, and some new OEM tie rod outer on. 4 new OEM size tires went on my steelies. just had four wheel alignment done and i noticed a small clunking noise coming from the front drivers side corner of my car. i shut the car off and went to the front of my car. i move the tire in a out with both arms and am able to clearly hear a clunk coming from the top of my drivers side front strut.
from here i took off the wheel and inspection all the bolts and suspension ocmponents. they all seemed very tight and didnt bugde. i noticed the spring was a little loose so i retightened the lock nut spring deal below the spring. the clunk is still heard from the top of my strut (up towards the pillowball mount)there is no gap between the spring and its upper mount and everything seems tight but when i put the wheel back on...shit makes a noise when i move the wheel with my amrs (pushing in and out) i also check the 3 bolts up top in my engine bay. all of which are tourqed down. my car drives fine but that little clunk is annoying, please help me!!!:sadwavey:
sorry for the long story but i tried to be as descriptive as possible....
oh and i also drive an S13:faint:

Exactly. If your coils are adjustable, the big nut under the adjustment knob is what you wanna tighten. Seen this problem a few times.

Wow, I recently made similar modifications to my S13 - megan racing coilovers, rear adjustable arms, and I also have a clunking on the front drivers side! It led me to a loose collar on my coilover, but that didn't solve the problem. So you guys are saying to tighten the nut that is up by the pillow ball mount? Should the car be in the air, or can I do this while the wheel is on the ground and fully loaded?
thanks,
Charles

i have the same problem. first i thought the wheels were hitting the springs, but then it should happen on both sides right? could a bad tension rod be the problem? maybe the pillowball joint on top is binding and needs to be lubed?

could be, but ive put brand new battle verion TC rods in. i think it might be the nut on the very top of my strut, im still curious as to the correct amount of torque it should be:wiggle:

I just checked the torque on the nut in question, and it seems pretty darn snug to me. Could it be the brake pads click-clacking in the caliper? I have Z32 brakes up front.

what amount of torque did you use Charles? (mine are easy to turn with a 1/2 wrench)

I put a wrench to the nuts and they didn't want to turn, and I didn't force them, so I don't know what torque they're set to. I'd say snug those up and see if that works..
cheers,
C

is it better to jack up the car up and then tighten the big nut or can it be tightened with the car on the ground? thanks:2f2f:

You got to hold the top pearch while you tighten it.

oh okay, so thats the piece right above the spring? (meaning the wheel would have to come off anyway) whats a good amount of torque to use? or should they be snug???

The perch tool goes on the upper perch(holds the top of the spring) and then you tq the Pillow ball nut on top to manufacture(HKS) spec.
