Dammit i brought my 90 240sx and a friends family machanic said that the reason it has trouble starting and makes funny sounds when it does is that in has a busted cylinder! Shit but then i took it too two machanic shops they both said that the engine is good and its a exgust leak and i need a new lift i think and new spak plugs thats why my motor was hoping too much. one spark plug was loose and he tighten it and it didnt jump no more and the motor seemed fine. damn i can only prey.....if it is a motor how much for a KA24de? any opinions ?

duffman had the same problem...its turned out 2 be a bad injector....first try switching the spark plugs 2 to see if that is it....

go ahead and change the spark plugs and wires (you should do that when buying a used car you dont know the condition in, anyways. also, get the timing belt tensioned while you're at it). if that doesnt fix it have the injectors checked. if it is a blown engine, you can pick up a good ka24de and trans for very cheap, like under $500 easily all over the internet

i second that!

if you think its your injectors u have two ways of seeing which one it is without using any tools:

pull a plug wire out one at a time your cars idle should drop noticeably with each one. (with nissans consult scan tool this is called a powerbalance test)

once you find a cylinder that does not change in idle then its that cylinders injector that is at fault

second way is to unclip the injectors themselves. same thing should happen the cars idle should drop it will run like crap once u unplug the injector and it doesnt make a difference then its that one

haha, no shit. You should know that language by heart!

It sounds like your engine is fine... A cylinder not firing is usually either the injector or the spark plug, which sounds like your problem. Do a tune-up on it, or if you don't feel comfortable, have your mechanic do one, and you should be all set. Though if it does turn out to be something big with the engine, as was said earlier, KA's are really cheap, you shouldn't have much of a problem with this.

And hey, who knows, maybe you could find a cheap CA and throw that in instead. I've heard of people selling them for under 1000 dollars, but it's pretty hard to spot.

At any rate, congrats on the purchase. Even if it's a little under the weather at the moment, it's still your own 240. Gotta be happy with that
