i just bought myself a 1997 240sx, after 6 months of searching every corner, and finally it is mine. The only thing im worried about now is being able to get my hands on a s14 sr20det motor. my good friend has quoted me a price from this guy 2000 + shipping ( for black top sr20det front clip, there are red top sr20dets for 1600 + shipping for those who want one) but i dont know if the guy is reliable. i just wanted to know if u all know of any other place where i can aquire a s14 sr20det. And if possible, a place where i can get the install done in the east coast. thanks for your help.

$2k for a S14 black top clip seems a little too cheap for me. Be careful. Finding a black top for that price on the east coast will be difficult.
Now, my OT response SORRY
Just because you have an S14, it may be important to you that you have an S14 black top in there. Understandable, and in fact a wise decision because S14 black tops tend to be in better shape and lower mileage than a lot of red tops. However, don't be afraid to just get a red top and save some money (make sure you get a lot of info and in person inspection if possible). VTC only does so much, and it is debatable whether it really helps under increased boost. IMO, getting the S14 for VTC and a T28 is not worth it. Just get a S13 redtop or black top and throw an S15 T28 if you are keen on the garrett ball bearing turbo. OR, spend a few hundred more and get a GT2835 or 3037 depending on your taste - direct bolt on.

the GT2835 and GT3037 are not direct bolton....the stock manifold will fit a GT2510, GT2530, GT2540. HKS sell a direct bolt on GT Sport Turbo kit(just turbo and internal WG) but they usually retail about $1800-2000.
If you want to run a GT2835 you have to buy the HKS Full GT kit which includes Stainless Manifold, DP, WG etc...and retails for about $4000.

Chris,
To my understanding GT2835 is direct bolt on, 3037 on the other hand is the one that needs the stainless manifolds and everything else.
I sold a GT2835 before and it came with a T25 flange.

GT25/40R on Andy's SR was very nice, it's very streetable. However turbo experts said that it's a mis matched turbo from HKS and not very efficient on a technical perspective. I would recommend GT28/35R, it was dynoed 400rwhp in Japan on a MR2.
Always get the "R" if you are getting the bolt on turbo from HKS. It's the best!!

Yea Andy's been tempting me big time. He also had 264 intake and 272 exhaust cams too. Man this is turning out to be like how my FD started.

that's really cheap...for a S14 black top engine...man..$2000? i'll take it right away, but for such a cheap price of course we will worry about it's bogus or reliability...better check out those front clips with yuor mechanics first to make the decision...!!
