ok I take every precaution when loosinging bolts including greasing the hell out of them and also heating them up for about a minute with mapp gas. anyway when putting the subframe spacers on, while tightening the last one, of course, it crossthreaded, there was no sign of it, it was almost all the way done, then it just got really tight, then on the way out, it xthreaded the whole shaft pretty bad, anyway, can i just get a tap and die and go to town with it, its gonna be way to much work to put a new stud in. will a 10 dollar auto parts strore kit work good? thanks.

Yup that will work. Go to napa with the bolt, they have something called a helicoil kit. Its about 20 bux, but it works magic. Basically grind, re-thread it with a coil and your bolt goes right in. Anyone thing this will work for the power steering pump though?

Next time you may want to rinse out the threads with PB Blaster. Sometimes dirt and rust make it easier to crossthread.

helicoil is out of the question because it is a stud coming out of the car, so i might as well just rethread the stud, and get a new bolt, maybe one size smaller or sometihing i ddonno. uless ican save this thread, but prolly not. we will see.

I snapped one on an 03 altima at work (nissan) doing the subframe recall. 27 hours at a body shop to replace the stud (nissan wants the whole frame rail replaced, which requires removing the entire rear floorpan).

So yeah, try an save that shit. You don't want to have to replace it.

well the largest tap or is it a die, well anyway the largest one i can find is half inch, so i think the stud is a little bigger, im just gonna go to town and hope to get about 3/8 of an inch or so of thread, if I have to ill just use washers if i cant thread it down enough. Im so sick of this shit.

find a fastenall and take in one of the good subframe nuts. They can match it and find the correct die for you.
