here the deal, i had the starter changed by a mechanic not too long ago (stock ka). But i notice that i can't start the engine as i used to after that (have to try several times before the engine start). It become even worst that i had to sit inside my car for 25 mins just to start it. in the process, i can't hear any cranking sound from the engine when i tried to start it. sometimes it will start right off, can someone tell me what's going on? is it possible that the mechanic swapped me a bad starter? or anything else? any advise will be great, let me know if you need more info about it. thz for reading it and have a nice day.

Have you had the starter relay checked? There have been several threads on this. The relay is near the battery and the outer shell of it is blue. Remove it and jump one of the connectors. The larger one and try to start it. Now tell me that you actually searched for an answer and have the FSM? :duh:

thz for the fast response as usual guys. sorry i forgot to mentioned that my car is automatic, so i don't think is the clutch switch. yes, i searched before posted with different phases like no start, won't start/crank, but they didn't show me what i'm looking for. but i haven't check the starter relay yet, but will do it later tonight (cuz i just got off work) and see what's going on.

anyone know how much the blue relay cost by any chance? thz for the advice and have a good night.

There is a swhtch on the shifter, at the base, under the cover, that wont let it start unless the car is in park. Check that. It's the same idea as the clutch switch.

The inhibitor switch is actually near the starter in the area between the battery and fuel filter. It prevents the starter from kicking in unless the gearbox is in Park or Neutral. Sometimes the switch goes bad and makes the car think it's not in the proper gear.

Here's a picture for the S13 auto. S14 is similar.

I'm not saying it's definitely one thing or another. I'm just saying the inhibitor switch is a common cause.

You need to go to zeroyon.com and download a factory service manual. Go to the EC section. It will walk you through how to check for a no-start.

There are too many steps for us to walk you through. Try that first and post up any specific questions you have.
