Hello all..
You kno wen you guys are turning with your wheel?
When you go into a straight line, it comes back to default position.. it spins for you pretty much...
Well... I kno its called power steering.
I have power steering on my car and I am now having a hard time turning, its like driving a car with no power steering... when I turn to make a right, and then a straight... my steering wheel doesn't come bak to default.
If I was making a right turn... and I let go of the wheel.... the steering wheel will be the same and stay stuck like I was turning to the right..
I kno something is either broken, or gotten loose... I have lots of power steering fluid... so I kno im not low in power steering... HELP!:eek3d:

rack is shot? maybe pump? i hope you didn't use POWER STEERING FLUID instead of ATF w/ Dexron like you're supposed to.
maybe your caster's way off too

Yeah, like EchoOfSilence said, you're supposed to use ATF instead of Power Steering fluid per NISSAN'S instructions.

ATF.. doesn't that stand for Automatic Transmission Fluid? So u guys are saying... use Automatic Transmission Fluid for Power Steering Fluid?

Yes use ATF for power steering fluid.
I think you probably have a suspension and/or alignment problem.. Even if you were to drain all the ATF out of the power steering system, the steering wheel will still return to center so I really doubt that's your problem. I would get the car aligned and/or crawl under there to check nothing has been bent. Have you gone curb surfing recently?
Btw... do you "kno" it's spelled "know"? :P

Yes, Automatic Transmission Fluid. And we aren't saying it, just repeating it. That's in the 240sx Factory Service Manual. This came straight from Nissan's mouth. :)
You might want to drain that fluid ASAP.

I dont think the fluid is the whole problem but it could have caused the problem, since ATF and PS fluid are not the same they could affect the seals and lines on your power steering, kinda like when clutch fluid is brake fluid and people put atf in there it swells the seals as they arent built for it :P

Nah, Im not saying the fluid is the whole problem, but that surely is not helping at all.

This might sound stupid, but have you checked your tire pressures?

tire pressure good... and no I did not hit a curb... I just spun out while drifting...
so right now... I'm thinking
Rack and Pinions....
I dunno... not to sure..
Will having blown tension rods have this effect?

well if you blew your tension rods then the previous comment about your caster being off could be true.

I'm having the same issue... I think its a caster problem.
Anyone know what OEM spec is, and what most people set their caster to for INCREASED PERFORMANCE?!??!??! :P
Seriously.
Gonna align my car soon and see if the problem goes away. (It needs one anyway)

OEM spec ( S14 FSM ) is 6 degrees to 7.3
Mine is at 7.5 both sides, thats the most I could get evenly.

S13 FSM also reads 6* to 7*30' unladen. And i'm getting this issue too.... :o
some people run 7, 7.5, i've seen 5.5 so i don't know.
