S13 HID Retrofit!!!! **In Progress** Pics

Alright, all opinions welcome! lol. These projectors are out of a S14 (Thanks DevonKyle). I took a piece of 22 gauge aluminum and cut it to fit flush in the housing. Tools included my HVAC Right-Hand Snips, HVAC Hole Cutter, and a Dremel. Once again this isn't finished, I still have to inclose the side of the projector. I have a vid that I will post later. The headlights still flip up. As far as the front of the projector. I plan to just leave it open, any issues with that? My 6000K HID's are on the way, I have Silverstars in there right now. I plan on painted the whole inside of the housing black so all you see is the glass of the projector.

The lighting at night looks pretty nice. What happens if it rains? Aren't you going to worry that the water will leak in?

So you're just gonna roll with no high beams? And yeah leaving them exposed like that is not good cuz they aren't sealed. If you want to leave it open you need to get something like the hella projectors which are designed to be used open element or you need to redesign the cover to weather seal it.

Your cutoffs are wrong for American style roads ( drive on the right ). That will blind oncoming drivers, it should have the cutoff higher on the right, not the left... unless that picture is misleading me.

HID's from stock bimmers/audi's/tsx's blind ME. fuck those fools. haha, anyways, its not bad. i had HID in my jdm celsior (Lexus LS400 for you retards) headlights, and it pointed to the left, all you gotta do is re-aim them, and you will be fine. as long as he's lowered/ aims them down just a tad, it wont blind people. im speaking from experience here, i know that you wont blind people if you aim it right.

are you going to fiberglass that projector housing, and seal it all up? that woudl look at lot better, fiberglass painted black, and some sort of plexiglass/lexan shielding it. good progress.

As far as the housing goes. I'm trying to figure up some way to put plexi in front of it. Only problem is, I don't know where I'm going to attach it. The light can't go back any farther because it will hit the frame/rad support. I'm going to just sit and stare at it tomorrow and see if I can find a way to cover it. I'm pleased with it for now, lighting is good. No one flashed me tonight but i'm still going to aim them down a bit. I have some 200 degree water/air tight HVAC tape that I'm going to put on the outside of the projectors for now. So water won't be able to get into the actual bulb. But, I'm going to hold off on the HID's until I enclose it.

Any ideas???????????? All input welcome. You guys don't have to worry about me getting mad with negative comments. I view it as constructive criticism.

i was told by some lighting gurus that the stock s14 projector lenses weren't the best for HID beam patterns, which is why some of them swapped over to bmw/e class/s2000 projector lenses in their s14's. ever heard of something similar? the cutoffs on those dont look that bad other than needing some lowering on the driver's side (re: i agree with it needs to be higher on the passenger side for us roads).

id like to see the finished product after some realigning of the beams, as id like to get some HIDs for my s14, but i'd like to see how the beam pattern is gonna be and if i can get away with just the stock projectors, as i dont want to screw up a good set of kouki headlights. of course, anything is better than the stock stuff i have now (plus a broken alignment pole so ill have to get a new set anyways)

I'm going to work on the alignment issue tomorrow. I had an S14 with HID's and the light pattern was actually good. No, these projectors aren't the best for HID's. However, I only paid $50 shipped for both of them, compared to the S2000 projectors, which are $500. I think I came out pretty good.

Also, how in the hell do you make a convex piece of plexi??? lol. Someone please let me know.

I like the sound. The headlights look aite. I might go get some HIDs for my car as well. Could you really see a big difference with those HIDs with your kouki projectors?

I did a similar setup to yours using projectors from a civic housing. I have been running this without a cover for about 6 months now in rainy Washington State. My High beams have no cover at all over the bulb.

You'll be OK.

I like the blue lighting, I may have to buy some Silverstars.

are they JDM projectors? if so, can you measure the size so i can look for HID projectors for a retrofit?

The passenger side is a JDM projector, and the driver side is the USDM projector. As far as the difference between the two, the actual glass seems to be the same. The only visual difference is the brackets that hold the projectors.

the beam pattern for the s14 is gonna be terrible compared to any OEM HID projectors. this is because the s14 projectors are halogen projectors. if you want it done, you should get it done the real way with some HID projectors.

Hey, nice thinking on the retro, but get super cheap H4 retro housings to put those projectors in.

The CHEAP H4 housings have a clear lense that shouldnt screw with the projector beam pattern much + your shit will be better protected.

design it, and take it to a plastic shop and ask them if they can make you a piece of plastic with x by x dimensions... or buy those cheap headligihts off ebay, with the plastic, and see if you can some how mold that on to the headlights. theres no way you can push the projector back at all? maybe use smaller projectors from s13 silvia headlights? hahah.

did you convert the plugs on your stock harness or what? i have an HID kit sitting in my room, and was thinking of just converting the stock headlights to the HELLAH H4 housing kit, and throwing the HID kit in there, re-aim, and have HID bling. :ghey: haha

+ 1 for the plastic fab shop. For sealing the back have you looked at the stock S14 seals? You might be able to get them to work.

see if you can use some h4 housing kits. if the projectors stick out toooo far than your gonna have to go custom with it.

cool idea, I like your "DIY" approach since many are too scared to attempt.

Id do one up on that and get rid of the pop ups if I was gonna go with projectors.. Build some buckets to fit them in, and use some clear lexan plexiglass or something for the lense.. would be trick and not too expensive.

The only problem with the plexi, is the projectors stick out past the black plastic housing. I guess I could trim it up a bit. How about something like this... **Paint skillzzzzz** lol.

i meant like a sleek headlight style.. but you should try to buy some cheapo diamond cut headlights and just cut the back out of it so you can stick it over your projectors..

projector mods on s13 (flip-ups) headlight is best done with the diamond cut crap you find on ebay. get those and swap in projectors.

Here's the secret. The best way to use these with hid kit is to mod the shields.
Get a sheet of metal or cut up a coke can and add this piece to the shield. JB weld it on.

the cutoff will be sharp and stright across like E-code hid projectors.
You can also adjust your shield, there are two screws on the bottom side of the projectors.

Here's the reason why they dont make the best projectors. the Lense isn't clear it's hazy. Don't mind my spit on the inside of the projector, i was blowing out the dust.

These are my extra projectors and they have zero miles on them. I did the s2k hid retrofit on my kouki headlights. :)

Also, why did you get one USDM and one JDM? Your cut off is all out of wack now, well just the JDM one.

I adjusted the motors so they only go up and down to sleepy position.

I have since finished the other side. They are not HID like yours, that's too much $$.
