what plugs should i go with?

i am about to change the spark plugs out of my car. just cause i think my mods are fmic, down pipe, no cat, exhaust, intake, blitz ecu, mbc set at 14psi. should i run a colder plug? detonation is not a factor right now. but i would like to not have it either way :) anyways, what plugs should i get? part numbers please? s13 sr20det red top

i see lots of people running the ngk bkr6e and the bkr7e. I think it was the 7 for higher hp applications

You can start with a plug thats 1 or 2 heat ranges colder than stock and make a couple passes. Then pull and inspect.

If the firing end of the plug and the insulator are covered in black soot, your plug is too cold. If it's tan, light brown or light grey, it's just right. And of course, if it is melted or blistering, it's too hot.

ngk bkr7e. you will probably have to order them, so get a bunch. they are cheap, and you should change them probably about every oil change.

As far as I could understand from your link, I would probably be better served with the stock bkr6e.

To prevent misfires. I doubt your car ever need plugs hotter than stock though, unless the person who put those plugs in was trying to use them as a bandaid for a problem elsewhere in the system.

Not to bring this back up, but on your guys suggestions I went to a Napa like 20 miles away to buy some NGK's. They didn't even have the bkr6e or bkr7e. Only the bkr5e. They said this was stock.

When I changed my plugs for the Bosche, the old plugs were NGK bkr5e, and were nice and even grey/tanish. I didn't buy the plugs because I didn't want to go with a hotter plug.

Should I just stick with the 5's and save the hassle or would it be worth waiting and trying to get the 6's?

NAPA should be able to order them for you. If not Advance can usually ship it to the store next day.

You can try the 5 and see if you have problems. They're cheap enough to swap out regularly.

I use cheap NGK V-power plugs from kragen. $1.50 a pop, change them occasionally.

yeah, that's probably what I'll do. My car seemed to run fine with the old ass NGK bkr5e, the plugs were nice even and grey/tan so I may as well give them another shot and order the 6's and try them next and note any difference. Like you said they're cheap enough. Thanks a bunch.

*Edit* So, technically is the 5 or the 6 the OEM part? I have seen both ways. I thought 6 was stock so I turned them down, but now that I research harder I also see someone saying the 6 is actually stock.

Stock is NGK platinum PFR6B-9. You can use BKR5E, BRK6E, and BKR7E. They're all acceptable OEM replacement depending upon the type of driving you do.

I thought the s14 is when they started using platinum plugs stock? Or did I hear wrong?

im using BKR7E- 6097 which is pre gapped the same as PFR7B-9

(note mine are one step colder than stock)
