I should probobly know what this is as it comes straight out of the ignition but I don't...
I didn't cut this either must have been previous owner.

It's a cable, there arent seperate wires its just one that is frayed.

Key lock cable for the automatic transmission. The fool before you just cut it instead of unclipping and removing it.

All it does it is prohibits you from taking your keys out while your car is in drive. Just unclip it and remove it.
That is all it does.

I thought you couldn't remove your key unless the gearbox was in Park, but +1 on the comments above.

Bingo. The cable is what prohibits the key from coming out until Park is engaged.
