For those experienced in the field:
I'm looking to reupholster my leather s14 door panels as the leather is coming loose, faded, scuffed, etc.

It seems like the leather is tucked under the actual door panel and bonded in with adhesive. Theres also a cloth material under the leather followed by foam. The foams on the door, the cloth and leather is the sheet removed.

I'm new to it, but it can't be impossible with the right tools.
What kind of steps must I undergo for prep after I've ripped off the leather.
The cloth backing will come off with the leather. Should I use adhesive to back my new leather - if so with what?

Would you recommend using anything to hold the upholstered leather in other than tucking and adhesive?
Tips, hints, comments, you can always PM and talk if you can help 1 on 1.

Time-wise, it Probably would be more efficient taking it to a shop - but I can't cure the DIY disease.

Thanks

Yeah thats what I was expecting.
Since it's spray, it is removable from the actual panels if it comes in contact -- correct?

Has nobody done this before? Would be interesting to see pics.

It's not leather, it's vinyl.

With that being said, the OE vinyl is vacuum formed to the panel with the foam padding bonded to it in the process. Same as almost any door panel. To completely reupholster it you would need to strip every inch of the material, foam, and old adhesive, then heat and mold a new sheet of vinyl to it. It would be very hard to get it right and probably turn out like ass since most off the shelf adhesives will not hold up to that kind of application. You'd need to use something like pressurized adhesive for landau tops but even that would bleed through the vinyl unless it was heavy backed.
Best bet, buy new panels.

take it from someone that tried. I even have writeup lost somewere on here
search "s13 door reupholster" . its been about 6 months and its now loosing contact in some places. I checkd out reupholstery place and they quoted about 60-70 per panel, not bad id say for something that will be done proffessionally and will last. Even when i was doing mine i coudnt get the corners so i had to cut so it wouldnt crumble up. I would def. say this is not a DIY if you want this done right the first time. gl
