Have any of you tried it? Im going tonight and Im going to see if I can. I was just wondering if any of you have done it.  if you have an answer please let me know.  One major thing, do any of you know where the brakes are placed?  Thanks,

Mike

well... it's possible on my go-kart. Mine's an off road type and the brake is on the left rear side, so drifting to the left is easy. I hope you plan to do this off road and not on a tarmack and with non slick tires. The "race karts" DO NOT drift well. I've tried and rolled one, with no roll bar. It hurts, it hurts really bad. So, if you wanna do it go for it, just don't break your collar bone while attemping it.

I was just wondering, plus it would look funny as hell to see someone doing that in a little piece of shit go cart.

You can drift them easy. Lock the rear end while staying on the gas hard, drifts right around, piece of cake. I do it on concrete though, so it is slipprier than asphalt, but still. Actually on the track I go to there are rubber patches for traction, so you lock it, get sideways then when you hit the rubber you are already full on the gas so it helps you pull out. Great fun and it is the style that was used to set the course record.

Will it being cold help at all?  The track is concrete, so the wheels will be  cold, but would it change the track?

The go-karts that are open to the public will not drift, HOWEVER..  the go-karts that people race on the weekends will.  My best friend raced go-karts for 10 years in Control-Stock class (5hp briggs motor puttin out about 35hp) MUCH fun.  I used to love watchin him come around tight corners on the tarmac courses sideways.  Of course if you watch them race on dirt every kart on the track is sideways through every turn.

the 125cc shifter karts will do 135mph!  They will power on drift all day, or until the tires wear out!

yeah those are hot. &nbsp; We went to a kart race that had twin 2-cycle engines. (lay-down karts) &nbsp;one on either side of the drivers head. WOW are they fast. &nbsp;Like 160 around lowes motor speedway 2" from the ground.

This one place in South Dakota had a race where they would throw water in the corners of the track. That was so fun, I was pretty much sideways the whole race until they yelled at me for sliding into a guy. They made me slow down.

There are places open every day of the week, open to the public where you can drift with go karts. Actually the only way to not drift is to give it 1/2 throttle, the tracks are just hard to find. They don't have them where I live though, but I've been to one.

The go-karts at f1boston (http://www.f1boston.com) can drift. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

They're all rear-braking karts, so you can just jam the brakes to get sideways going into a turn..... but it's so much more fun to enter corners really hot and just initiate the drift with a little throttle lift (track 2 at f1boston is so easy to just drift the back straight into the first U-turn).
