I took out my red top SR head today and I was checking my head studs. My question is can i reuse my APR head studs? They still look straight and all the threads are there in perfect condition.
I remember some shop on this forums was selling cometic metal head gasket and ("ARP" sorry for the confusing) head studs combo for a great price. But I forgot who it is. Let me know if you know the place.
Thanks,
Tam

First off, they are ARP - Automotive Racing Products head studs, and second- yes they can be reused.
I think you are thinking of Enjuku Racing for that "deal" but it really isn't one (http://storesense.megawebservers.com/HS318/Detail.bok?no=114). I ordered my cometic straight from cometic for $107 shipped and my headstuds straight from ARP for $97 shipped.

any headstud should not be reused. they work by being put in tension and when removed will be physically different.
NemeGuero asked his Properties of Materials professor (this is @ Cal, btw) and he replied with a STERN 'no'.

no..that is too expensive. The website that i saw, the price was only $207 for ARP head studs and cometic MHG. I will try ordering ARP head studs from the company.
Thanks for the reply back.

I would think this should be the same process as the factory studs, if they are within a tolerable lenght, IE: not too long then you could reuse them, or am i wrong, would these things crack before they would stretch? iono.

i would just check for stretch.....unless its a 5000 dollar motor with ULTRA tight tolerances
