my friend and I have been messing around with my car for about a week (redtop sr20det). we swapped the motor and got everything hooked up. tried starting it...and all it did was crank over and not come close to starting. i get fuel/spark. trying to figure out what exactly was wrong with it.. my friend compression tested it to make sure the seals were good still... and it has good compression. all the vacuum lines are in. tried starting it some more since the motor had been sitting for a while..and it kept cranking, over and over. so we finally go to adjusting the CAS and it almost started. so we kept trying with it and then nothing. we can't find anywhere that tells you what certain degree or anything that it should be set at. been asking around and no one really knows. any ideas?

got the timing set at TDC and still nothing. i've had 3 mechanics at my house already and they're all stumped.

K, first off, download the SR20 FSM located in the SR FAQs. Double check your timing. Put the engine in TDC, lift the valve cover and check the cam timing. Intake side should be roughly at the 10 oclock and the exhaust side should be at 12 oclock. See if the divots are lined up on the chain marks. Now look at your CAS and ull see a mark on the gear side and 2 marks on the CAS side. Line the gear mark on the 1st mark on the CAS SIDE. When you push it into the hole and slides into the CAM gear, it will spin and line up to the 2nd mark on the CAS side. That should be stock 15* if your mechanical timing is good. Bolt the CAS down, put the valve cover back and try to start it again. Double check all your sensors and make sure everything is plugged in correctly and securely.
