So how did you find your car? Tell us the story...

What year, How much $$$(you or parents$?), Mileage, Condition, ect, ect...

I'll start

I was actively car shopping and after test driving almost every domestic (trans am, stang, ect) and import (teg, eclipse, ect) sports car I could find and not likeing anything the friend who was helping me find a car mentioned the 240sx. I had no clue what a 240sx was but he showed me online and I thought it was pretty cool looking so we found a 96s14 in the paper and went to check it out. When we drove up, the first thing we noticed was that it was purple. We considered just turning around and leaving but we had already told the guy on the phone that we were coming so we went ahead and stopped and took it for a drive.

It was a nice looking sleek car. Though I didn't like the color (at first) the inside was awesome. I got in and it was black leather everywhere with gray carpet. Looked great, felt great. Driving it was pretty cool but it was a 5spd. I definitely wanted a 5spd but unfortunately I didn't know how to drive stick all that well yet. I stalled once during the test-drive and had a couple close calls overall it was the best car of all I had driven and I HAD to have a car within the next week so a few days later I Paid $10,200 (parents paid 5k, I paid the rest) for my 96 s14 with 43,000miles.

Ok! Good topic DSC.

Well considering the circumstances Mine is a Silvia.

Anyway When I first got to Japan I was not into the Import cars because I have the 1970 Ford Torino. My dad built it for me before he died. It has a 429 SCJ Dual plane Weidan intake 2 holley 650cfm double pumpers. Hot cams and balanced crank etc. He got to run it on the track one time before he passed. Time was 10.29 @145 I still have the time slip but it is very old and yellow. Hallsville Raceway Hallsville, TX. Well I came Here and I bought A Skyline and was happy with my RB-20DET Well Time passed and I was tired of getting stomped my 180's and Silvias so I thought if you can't beat them join them and I went S14 hunting. Well I came across a very few considering the time frame they had just started coming out 2 years before, When I finally found the one I wanted. It was Green with the Chamealon Purple, and blue. It had onw owner other than myself and it was A female so it was taken care of. It only had 13,000 KM on it and No mods. It had a what he called a Junsei bodykit on it and to me that meant NISMO (So I thought) Junsei is stock or(Normal) in Japanese. Well after a little investigation I found it was an AMC body kit. Well Today I am driving it and my future mods are going to be expensive but worth it. I don't have a pic other than my webshots so i can openly post a pic. click my link.

alright well i picked mine up around last july i believe and i decidedd on it because my sister had an s13 at the time and i really liked it so i knew i wanted a 240. i loked for 95' and up though so i could get lower mileage. so it turns out at the very first lot we went to they had nothing of interest to me so we wanted to prceed to a new lot but the guy insisted that we check their second lot befoer we would be on our way. well we finally agreed and when we showed up there, she was the first thing that caught my eye. a perfect llooking 95 240 5-speed with only 40k miles on it!!! we couldnt pass it up because we knew we would not find another with that low miles so we bought it that day for 8k and i am paying half and my parents are paying the other half. i have loved it since the first day and i am glad we went and looked at the second lot even though the sales guy was annoying. it was bone stock, now it has a tanabe exhaust, injen CAI, Tein HA's, nology wires, and some small things like gauges and shift nob and indeglo needles and such. next is rims!!

well, i bought my 240 back in early february. i had been looking for the copue with 5sp for many months but couldnt find one, i ended up finding a coupe on ebay, but it is an auto, i figured id just swap it out, its not that hard (or expensive. it is an '89 with 194k and a beat up front end(i bought it from a girl in queens, so a few dents are to be expected i figure). she needs some work, she smokes a bit, it it is hard as hell to keep her going straight at like 70mph, but in a few months, she be looking good and running strong. yeah, she looks beat( doors and behind are great), and she smokes like a banshee, but for 600, i couldnt resist. ill try to post some pics as my coupe progresses through the summer. later all, matt

Cool stories guys!! Im not sure if u'll lke mine but it was fate!!

Anyways, I was looking for a car for my parents to buy for me for about 3 months and to no success. I looked at almost every kind of imports and some domestics but I tried everything in my power to convince my mom & dad to get me my dream car, a z32 300ZX. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and I had to have a car...it was Summer time, how can u wait rite?!!...and my dad could get a deal on the new 2door Civic that just came out, and I thought those were pretty sweet looking. After eating at the restaurant, one magical night, I checked the paper for cars one last time b4 going to the dealership, and noticed a '97 240sx LE, 85, 000 kms, $20, 800 (in Cdn so u don't freak out). I thought it was a long shot but I brought it up anyways, and its no 300 but im happy I did.

Here's a pic of my baby now.

Btw got it down to $19, 500 and it was all stock and babied by the previous guy who was crazy about 240's.

I was shopping for a car at 16(year 2000). The only car that I wanted was a 2.5RS. But they just just too hard to find. I found a black 2 door, and it was 45 minutes away, but my uncle went with me. It was really nice, but it has mods like exhaust, headers, intake, rims, etc. But my uncle said it's probably not a good idea to buy a modded car, and I went home thought about it, and decided not to buy it. BTW, it had 28000miles, $15000. So after looking for a year, and still couldn't find anything nearby, I was just going to get any car that moves. One night, my dad was taking the newspaper out to the recycling bin, and on top of the pile of newspaper was a cars for sell page in a local newspaper. He picked it up, told me to look in it, and it's got one 97 240sx, white, 24000miles, no price. I called the lady up, she was really old and it was her car, she said she wanted $10500, someone else was going to buy it the next day, but I said I will take it now. Me and my dad went to the bank, got cash, paid for it.

Hi All
I dont really know if you want to know but I thought I would add my 2 cents as I am one of the only NEw Zealander here.
I bought a 1996 RPS13 180SX Type X from a car dealer in Japan throught the internet. Dont worry I got the site reccommended from a mate who was a regular buyer.
It has done 30000kms, has a SR20DET engine, full stainless steel custom made exhaust and a M's pod filter. Apart from that it is pretty standard. I have a set of Defi electronic Gauges to go in and have a Pioneer headunit and subs to go in as well.
When I get some better pics I will post them for you all.
GO THE MIGHTY SR!!!!!

Anyway Hi all

Well after my FD got stolen I went around looking for a fun reliable car to mess to daily drive and play with until i decided what to do with the FD.

Bought the 91 240sx SE for $1600 and have been playin with it since. The SR gets installed by MotoRex in two weeks and most of my HKS stuff on order comes in. Still supposed to be my beater car but oh well might as well have fun too.

Well, I"ve had my s13 240 hatch for a lil over a year now, I had originally set out to get a markIV supra, but couldn't find one, I'd taken a trip to the "big city", to cruise all the used car dealerships and was pissed thinking I was going home emptyhanded. At the last dealership we were going to look at, I was about to leave when my fiance' points to a little black hatchback hidden in a dark corner between two big trucks, I hadn't even seen it. We went to check it out, and at this point, I'd never even heard of a 240sx. I called my friend on the cell, and had him look up info about it on the net... we did a carfax on the vin and checked consumer ratings and KBB values. I took it for a spin and by accident, initiated my first drift while driving it in an empty parking lot to test the steering.

I drove it home an hour later and have been happy with it since Oh, and the pic for my car will have to be my sig, til I replace my broken arse digital camera.

back in january, i was in need of a car, any car. my old car, an '87 sentra 5pd, was impounded for out-of-date registration and is now lost forever. btw, it was my learning car and had soooo many probs.
anyway, my dad told me that he had about $2500 for me to go look for a nice used car. i was prty excited, cuz i had already seen a nice FC3S for that price. my dad, tho, is not very fond of the rotary engine.
he tells me to hold off on looking while he goes and looks at the impoud auction. i then think, 'oh, they might have somethin nicer, like an FD3S...' he comes back and tells me that he found me a 240sx 5spd there for $1000. i was like 'uh...okai. y not?'
i surfed the web tryin to find out what i was in for (thank god for DSL), and when i saw what it looked like (S13 fastback), i thought 'hey, that's prty nice. better than that damn sentra.'
i go look at the car the next day, and to my amazement, the auction was for SALVAGED cars! nonetheless, i checked it out. i see my future car and i see that the passenger side is caved in! aside from that, the car was in a great, well-kept condition w/ 98k miles. the engine was also in great condition. nothing else was wrong with the car, except for the caved in passenger side.
i was prty skeptical, but he told me that since it was mostly just body damage, he and my uncles can fix it. we went ahead and bought it, and then after about a month, it looked like a beauty. u couldn't even tell that it was in an accident. plus, with the extra money, i got the 180sx taillights and some 17" wheels.
less than a month later, i get frikkin rear-ended by a damn GMC truck. killed mah lights! but i got 4200 out of it, plus an extra 2000 for "pain & suffering".
anyone kno where to get an SR20DET for 2000? ..hehe..

way back in high school my first car was a S13 fastback...i loved that car to death...i had to sell it so my parents could get their new car...later on about 6 years later i've had gone thru a camry, maxima, accord v6 coupe, and truck.....but i still missed my 240. One day at the office back in august i was looking thru autotrader.com and saw a RED 98SE 5pd with 29,000 miles for $14,000...i called the dealer and asked if it was still on the lot...he said yes....i told the dealer HOLD THAT MOFO for me i'm coming down after work to pick it up. Took me 3 hours to get there with the cali traffic...well here she is....

I really liked my Civic Si hb. The suspension was almost "done." I was starting to plan an ITR swap. I was getting the hang of it in autox. But the suspension was killing my kidneys (too stiff for a daily driver), it was slow until I spent a lot of money on it, and I was tired of having THE car.

I decided I would keep the Si and get a toy car to play with. RWD sounded like a nice change. What about a hachi? Too hard to find - and $2500-3000 for a 15 year old POS economy car? It probably cost that NEW!

Hmmm... next? How about a 240sx? I always liked the car (although I never thought of buying one when I got my civic - it was Si or SER only). There used to be a gorgeous one when I lived in AZ at a local rice shop. Did some research. Decent power stock, SR option, good handling reviews. s13's for $3000... nicer than a Hachi, but really more than i wanted to spend. Took a look at a few. Drove nice, although a bit tired. Tacky, dated, uncomfortable interior. Dated shell.

Hmmm... next? What about getting a newer one (s14)? Test drive corrected all the problems from the s13 - it was a gorgeous car. Price was not too much more than an s13. Same upgrade potential.

So I scoured the mid-Atlantic region from PA to NC and found my car after looking at about 10-15 others. It was the only one I found with a good price that hadn't been hit... hard! A bit rough around the edges, but she's coming along nicely where it counts.

Pics in my webshots "homepage" link below.

My story isn't much... I used to drive an automatic Mazda 323 and I hated it. I really wanted to switch back to the stick. I am studying in (Computer) Engineering and at that moment, I had 2 and a half years of University left. I thought that I might look for a nice little manual car to last me for the rest of my degree, afterwards, I could afford a new generation Prelude. (Which I loved at that moment). I started looking for cars around 2000-3000$Can. My father was going to pay for it. The problem was that I wasn't interested in anything in that price range. I started looking at 240sx 'cause I loved to looks on that car.

The first 240sx I got inspected was a totalled car... The front clip was from another car. I was really disappointed. Then, I found another one. A 1993 LE model with SuperHicas, and stick! it had arounde 100,000 miles on it, very little damage and wear (cracked bumper, little rust under the wing and bare tires). The guy was asking for 7700$Can for it.

We decided not to take it... But we changed our minds on the next day. My father dealed with the guy... We got it at 6600$Can with new rear brakes and new trunk pistons.

Since then, I fell in love with her. Great car, reliable, loved the way it handles... I even test drived a new gen Prelude and I didn't have the sporty feel that my 240sx got me. There's one thing I don't really like from her: she eats up tires!!!

I think finding my 240 was fate. I was first driving an 87 pathfinder (I'm part of a pure nissan family), and well one day, it caught on fire in front of my friend's house! It seemed like an electrical fire. But anyway, now I needed to buy a new car, and I figured why not look into a 240. As soon as I checked the classifieds, there was a 96 240 5spd. the guy was asking 8grand, I ended up paying 7. When my brother and I first decided to look at the car, it was almost ideal. The only problem is that it didn't come with the stock bumper. It had a shogun bumper. The interior was clean, paint was in great condition, and it had 49K miles. I was glad I bought that car. everytime I walk outside and look at it, I just think to myself "damn, you're a sexy b*tch." forgive the stock rims...http://sniperx.temptation.com/pics/justwashed.jpg

Well first off I'm a brand new 240 owner..... my cousin found it for 300 bux- blown engine, I told him all the potential of the car, he got super psyced...I sent him links, etc, etc, he began tearing the car apart, then graduation came, not all 18 year olds have enough money, dedication, or know-how, to preform an engine/tranny swap...

I was at his house a week or so ago...he straight up offered the car to me for 300 bux, part of the engine and tranny dropped, towed to our garage...clean title, spot of rust on the A pillar that might need welded, otherwise in rather good condition

I'm gonna hoard my s13 in the back of our work space for a while, collect the DET and S15 front, and other bits, finish our CRX and Beete projects, enjoy my plain, boring, but reliably quick SE-R...then begin my Sil-1580

Finding my 95 240sx was a complete accident! I was looking on Autotrader for 300zx's and while selecting which car the mouse slipped and i accidentally selected 240sx instead of 300zx. Only one car showed up and it was a 1995 240sx with 65k miles and was in excellent condition. I had never really thought of getting a 240 before but soon as I saw it I knew I was going to get it. I went down the next day and bought it for 7000. I have had it for about 2 months now and I absolutely love it as much as the day I bought it!! heres a pic..

Well this story is a little different, awakard, but I think it is worth to mention. First of all I do not have a 240 yet but just keep on reading. I feel in love with the 240 ever since I saw my uncles. He got it from a police auction for about $2000. It was wreaked from the back and that was it, but get this, it only had about 20,000 miles on it (oh yeah it was a S13). I thought that the car was a piece of shit compared to the 300zx. But as I kept on seeing the car I wanted one. I started to get information about the 240 and tried to find one on the internet and in newspapers. I had luck, but didn't have much money to buy one because I didn't have a job. I started to give up the 240 search and thought to myself that I will just keep my '87 toyota corolla 5spd until I graduate college and then get a new car (was thinking the new Z). However, my uncle came over many times and he gave me his keys to the 240 and I just loved it and thought about how I was going to get one. And then one day he came over again and he told me that he sees that I am in love with his car and also said that he wanted to get a 4 runner. He said that he will give me his car for 1500 dollars. He told me that during Christmas of 2001 and he said a year from that time. But told me around January or Febuary that he will be ready to sell it to me at the end of the summer. So until then I will be bugging him about it.

Sorry about the long story, but I just had to.

i had an S10 that I thought of fixing up by dropping a 350 into but i didn't know anything about fixing a car or truck up so i just wanted something to drive around in and fix up for car audio. my import hating best friend (he hated imports at the time) told me about a car his friend's dad's car that he was selling a Mazda MX6 (the older style). so i thought hey, it has air and power steering, i'll check it out. he told me about the torque it had for a four cylinder and that it was fast. i went to his friend's house looked around for the Mazda MX6 but couldn't find it. they had a lot of cars they were selling. i looked at my friend and said fuck an MX6 I want that Nissan car over there! he goes, that's it! turns out it was actually a Nissan 240SX.

it wouldn't start because the battery was dead so the next saturday i test drove it. the friend's dad who was a crazy serbian man, who hates american's except for a select few, does a burnout in reverse out the driveway in front of my parents. they came because they wanted to see the car before i bought it (in may of 99). my parents were like hell no you're not getting that car. the crazy guy gets out and walks up to my parents and says. eh? you like the power this nissan has? it has much power! talking all fast.

my grandma had passed away, and she had left me some money so i bought the car and took it home the next weekend. during that weekend my girlfriend cheated on me i found out and it was a pretty bad time, and i swear my 240SX was a life saver. kept my mind off a lot of the bad stuff.

well here it is, not much, but i'll never sell this car. i bought another car so i can turn this into my project car and dump lots o money into it.

and after going to the cruising spot, doing quite a few races and beating a lot of cars and keeping up with cars it seems i shouldn't have been able to keep up with, i convinced my best friend that nissans, at least, are not bad imports. here's what he drives. we installed intercoolers on it last weekend. it will soon have 400+ hp after the boost controller is installed.

well let me see. The saga begins with me moving to SoCal from the San Francisco bay area(too expensive no oppurtunity for people in the Music Business) . I had a lot of Nissans previously 510's 240z's etc . I was driving a 90 Hardbody it was winter . I did not have air. Spring came and it got hot . I knew I needed something with air. So I already knew about 240's and I am not a big S14 fan. S13's are more true to sports cars IMHO. So I started looking for a S13 Hatch. I found a 89 in the recycler for $800 it actually needed to be rebuilt. Yes it was a Salvage hit in the side, it came with an extra parts car. the guy I bought it from had a body shop so I told him I wanted him to finish the rebuild . He did the work for $1100 with fresh paint. I sold the spare engine and tranny and woundup p[aying $1300 for a freshly painted car. It had 145,000 miles on it. I invested another $1000 in odds and ends and stuff. I drove it for two years and put 25 thousand miles on it. the injectors started to go and I wanted a newer one with the DOHC so I sold it for $1700. I spent the next 3 months looking for another one. Now S13's with low mileage are hard to come by under $5K in SoCal . There were some base models for around $4300 with around 70-80 thousand on them . When I came across my current Black 91 Hatch it had 19,144 documented miles and he wanted $4300 but it was a base model auto. I talked him down to $3900 and took it(end of October). I swapped out to a 98 5 speed with 8 thousand miles on it last January. I am about to put in a 98 5 lug swap with 37,000 miles on it in the next week or so. The car has 31 thousand on it now. It is getting power windows and door locks (factory ) Installed complete for $400. So it will pretty much be an SE . I have put KYB AGX's with HKS springs but I am going to Tein HA coilovers. It also has a 96 J30 VLSD going in. There is also a Turbo in the wings for my low mileage KA. I also have to install my recently acquired Whiteline swaybars and bushings. Oh yeah I forgot I put the Kouki tails on it.

Well, after a friend of mine showing me a few, i fell in love with the 300zx. When I blew the radiator in my truck, it got me pissed enough to finally sell it and get something else (good truck, but crappy as far as comfort goes). So anyway, I looked through uncle henry's (local swap mag) and all I saw was a 240sx. I didn't think much of it at first, but then I figured, what the hell, i'll go take a look. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. Worked the seller down a whole 100 dollars to 2600, and took it home a week later. Oh, I got it last march....

Bought my 92 coupe from a little daddy's boy who didn't know anything about the car. He wanted $3000 and I talked him down to $2300. It had a little hail damage and some stains on the seat. Otherwise it was in great shape. 63000 miles. i've done some basic stuff to it, last weekend it was the water pump. http://www.geocities.com/broadwayblues34/240SXFRONTLEFT.JPG

My first coupe: I reaaaaly wanted a 240, but I couldn't really find one for sale. One day, one came in on trade into our dealership, my boyfriend called me, and we put a sold tag on it. I traded the car that I had then for it, had to pay $80 for License and Title. The value on both cars was $1500.00. 1991, Gold Coupe SE, 5-sp, 72K on it.

Then five months later, I sold it. I was bummed.

Three months after that, I found the one I have now on EBay. 1991, Black Fastback LE, 5-sp, 107K on it. I bought it for $1825.00 (LSD made the sale). Here's some pics:

Found my 1998 SE last August after a nine-month search of western Canada. I had been patiently looking for an S14 when I checked canadatrader.com one lunch hour, caught the ad right after it was posted and called right away. The guy didn't know his ad was online already, and I was the first of many to call him. The car was sold new in 2000, and had 50,000 hiway km on it (~30K mi). Made the 14hr round trip to get it that weekend, and have been enjoying/obsessing ever since.
