View Full Version : Help me decide on adjustable shocks for my s14
Well after a good ammount of research, I just couldn't find a coilover system that would make me happy. If you know of any that allow both height and dampening adjustment, don't rust, have at least 1 US phone #, come with good instructions and cost no more than $1300...let me know  Haveing realized that I will most likely never find such a deal, I am now looking for shocks (already have it narrowed down on springs) I am looking for shocks that at least come close to these requirements
1.) must be adjustable 4 way minimum (dono if they make less than 4) but I really want 8+ front and rear
2.) need to be able to make relatively quick adjustments...none of this takeing them off to adjust shit! Haveing to jack them up is OK but I'd really like to adjust from the top...dono how this would work in the back though, I can take my rear deck out if needed.
3.) well, thats it just 2 then...
I know I'm picky but its my money and I want to do it right. There's not really a price cap on the shocks...just can't have them costing the same ammount as a cheap set of coilovers
ANY suggestions on shocks would be greatly appricated...even if they don't meet my exact requirements and I have to settle a little bit...but they have to be adjustable. Right now Koni yellows are the only adjustable shocks I know of for the s14 that can actually get to the US. So any others?
Thanks a bunch in advance!

IIRC, Koni Yellows are about the best adjustable shock/strut combo for the s14.

I heard the Koni yellows are a dick to install since one side isn't a FULL shock/strut.

I will be installing it my self and I'm not about to go cutting my oem shocks to put in fucking $500 shock inserts! I just hope this doesn't turn out to be my only choice

I am not really sure what shocks you should run but I like your logic. One thing for sure our shock selection for the 240, especially the s14 really sucks here in America. What is the situation with Tanabe? I have a s13 and since they are not available I haven't reserched them at all, but would they be a decent choice?

GAB Super HP are easily attained, bump/rebound adjust (integrated though), 8 way in front, 4-way in rear IIRC.
Tokico HTS are a short stroke option and I believe they have something like 40-way adjustability.
Both adjust at the top via adjustment knob.
Both will run you ~$700 for a set of 4. The HTS will probably have to be custom ordered, as it seems the only two places that I have seen selling them have taken the pictures off the page.
KYB is supposedly working on an AGX application for the S14. This would be that way to go as the AGX are affordable and are a good option for the daily driver.
Another thing you should consider with a pieced together set up is some upper front pillow-ball mounts to allow adjustment of camber. Figure another $150-$250 spent here.

Alright, cool. I'm still looking for more product info on those but as far as sales http://www.shox.com sells them for a price I don't know yet and http://www.alamomotorsports.com sells them for 731.95 shipped. Also found this http://www.240sx.org/links/product-review/suspension/ryan2.htm which is cool because i'm either going with eibach pro-kits or GC coilovers (w/eibach springs) Depends on how much money I can get by may (auto-x season wooho!). The hardest part of this is I still have about 3k to go on my car with a near 11% interest rate so I have to decide whether to stay (nearly) stock and pay the car off with tax return and other money comming in or to get my new suspension. I will probably get the new suspension even though I know I shouldn't...sux being in HS sill but better than the real world I suppose.
