hey, just the other day i was driving from work and i took a left turn really hard like at 4000 rpm and when i stopped i heard a real loud knocking noise, at first i thought it was something like my driveshaft but now people are telling me it might be my axles. can anyone give me some insight on what the problem is, and if the axle was broken then what would it look like?:rl:

pix, are you talking about that rubber coupler thing, at any rate Id imagine Junk yard parts on something like that should be pretty cheap, I wouldnt try to fix mechanical shit like that anyway, save that for cosmetic stuff. Pix would be great though, Its like the blind leading the blind here.

my fault it was the gear bellow on the passenger side, do you think that will cause a mechanical probelm or is it just cosmetic,

thats a really tiny picture.
front or rear?
if its on the front, i think its your tie rod. tie rods are what let you steer. definitely important. lol.

rack boot wouldn't make a noise... check your lower ball joints...

before you start replacing things, double check that all of your bolts are nice and tight. I had a funky clunking coming from my front drivers-side suspension when turning, I thought that the ball joint needed to be replaced, since it didn't look so hot. but first I went through and double checked that everything was tight. I found one bolt that was maybe a 1/2 turn loose (still quite snug, but not torqued down) Once I tightened it down, noise went away. Another possibility is your front strut mounts, if they are original, they can be cracked and trashed, making all sorts of noises when turning. I had that problem too.
also, to post pics, upload them at a site like photobucket or imageshack. in photobucket, they give you links you can copy straight into the post. the format should be like this: url

Good call ''nbrindley'' The stering rack could be loose, or the bushing could be gone.

Wow... calm down and use the EDIT button.
Stop post whoring.
You're descriptions are TOO vague... you talk about a mysterious coupling and post a picture of a tie rod. I think we're more lost than you are.

If its just the boot, you can buy those at any autoparts store. Its easy to do, just zip-tie it back on. And yes, you need them to prevent dust from getting into the steering rack.

As mentioned before, the boot itself would not make a knocking noise.
