View Full Version : S14 RUCAS on a S13 and other alignment q's
Ive got a S13 and i put some C tune racing S14 RUCAS on like about 6 month ago with my agx/s tech christmas combo. It was fine. Adjusting camber was a breeze.
Now I have rubbing issues cuz i installed my megan racing coilovers. And I get a clunging noise from the rear. I just need to know if the rubbing issue is going to be a problem or not. I have the S14 arm half circle on the back of the strut. Should I even attemp to put it in the front or is that how it should be done? I have no idea.
And if its the pillow ball joint thats making the goddam clunging...please let me know, so i can talk to my friend so I can get some BV :D

alignment/tension rod problem
Ive recently hit a curb on the right side. So i replaced everything...even the tension rod. However I bought soem really cheap ebay ones for a temporary solution. Now that im trying to align the car. I dont get enough caster adjustment on the right side.
DOes anyone know if this is a common problem for cheap tension rods?

Are you sure it's your not your spring seating on the pearch every time you go over a bump?

clunk could be the rear sway bar hitting the a-arm from lowering, ball joint, the pilow mount being loose, or the spring popping on the perch.
hmmm
these are new coilovers tho

What does that have to do with anything?

Did you replace your lower control arm. Because more than likely you bent it.
well...noise cant be coming from the coilovers cuz they are brand new...and ive slammed it to the ground so I didnt have to deal with adjusting anything.
After I hit the curb, i replaced EVERYTHING...a arm, LCA, tension rod...etc...

That doesnt mean shit. It could still be making noise.
If you have any of the stock stamped rear links and have the coilovers lowered as far as they can go, chances are you have bent or twisted(or both) something. Have you replaced all of the rear links with adjustable ones?
At extreme lowering, I have seen arms come in contact with the subframe. sooo... basically you need to stop being a whiny bitch and think a bit more logically. Anything could be causing the noise. You havent offered any reasonable solutions for the mystery noise then you really should do some investigating before you post any more.

Sounds like somthing super basic is critically wrong. Anyways. I would start over. Take everything off. Measure everything, torque all the bolts, reinstall, then allign everything.
Are your tension rods adjustable?

Firstly, the C-Tune are garbage. I made the mistake of putting them on my car, and it only took a few months before they started corroding and making a clunk noise. Sorry, you probably didn't want to hear that but the quality of the parts you are using could be part of the problem.
Secondly, the half arms go around the front of the strut, on an S14 anyway.
Do you know WHAT is rubbing? Better have a look. Any rubbing is not normal and will be a problem.
You dumped your car to the ground so you wouldn't have to adjust anything?! Hella backasswards. The more you change the ride height from stock the more that will need adjusting.
Take Blue808's advice and start over. Sounds to me like you have some pretty basic stuff wrong.

Thank you! i just wanted to know if the RUCAS goes on the front or rear of the strut. Ive never seen it on a S14 before.
im pretty convinced that its the pillow ball joint from the RUCAS making the rear noise.
As to the front, the tension rods are adjustable. The problem is, the caster in the right front is negative. and I have RAN OUT of adjustment. I cant not make the tension rod any more closer than what it is. No more thead to turn on.

wow!! if caster is negative something is really realy wrong. the factory setting is 6.7 POSITVE. a lot people like to run around 7.5 for a better feeling
ooosp, sorry i mean my caster is + 5.4
what i meant to say is "its under spec!"
hahah good catch! + for you!
