helping a friend buy a car, hes looking for a 240 (95-96 preferably) and i found this one. whats everyone think of it?

blue book value on it is 3-3500, hes asking 4500 obo.

(from the listing)
145,XXX miles
5spd
concorde grey
all se options except 5lug/abs/lsd, spoiler, white face gauges, fog lights
very clean, of course some few dents and such
PERFECT COMPRESSION, 180 across all 4, ill do another test soon

maintanance:
fresh fluids: royal purple gear oil, new coolant/antifreeze, mobil 1 or royal purple oil.
new water pump, belts. brakes (master cylinder, calipers, pads, and rotors) put on right before i bought it, so a little over maybe 10k miles on that. also, fuel system was cleaned sometime before i bought it. removed the top timing chain guide.

mods:
megan racing street coilovers (not even a month old), 6 puck clutch (not on the car but will be included), ebay short shifter (hey it works), apexi n1 turbo 3" exhaust, s13 se wheels, kenwood head unit, 2 alpine type r 6 1/2" speakers.

and here's some pics http://s54.photobucket.com/albums/g113/lsnaple/

some other notes:
needs new tires, clutch is on its last leg- "about a month left", paint is good overall but clearcoat is peeling in a small area behind the back glass, rear speakers dont work, fuel gauge doesnt work. he wants to sell because hes had 2 other 240s and he's wanting a change.

i've searched everywhere around but there are practically no 240s for sale around NC, much less s14s. so that makes this car that much more appealing. but i just thought i'd let yall check it out and see what you think since i'm new to the 240 world and yall are the experts.
thanks

all se options except 5lug/abs/lsd, spoiler, white face gauges, fog lights...

Huh...are you saying it has none of that?

There are no other SE options...what you listed would make it an SE. if it DOES NOT have that, it's a base model.

Factor that into your pricing.

ALL S14's had power windows, power steering, etc...SE just had the rear sway bar, white gauges, 5-lug, and fog lights. ABS/VLSD was a package option, and kinda rare.

$4500 seems in the ballpark IMO, assuming it runs and drives well.

Yeah I would say that a decent price, considering the price spike 240sx have been getting lately

to give you an idea...i bought a 95 pearl white (perfect paint) se with 90.000miles, Auto, ABS, LSD, no rust, perfect condition for

$4200

that one looks like it'd be 4000 at most!!! i'd offer 3500 and try from there....

the price isnt my primary concern, what i'm mainly after is what everyone thinks of the quality of this car. the mods to it suggest that its been beaten on but its still fairly low miles.

basically- disregarding price, is this a quality used s14 or should i pass and keep searching?

Some people don't mind buying a malested car. Me personally I'd never buy someone else's project unless it was a shell starting from scratch. But that's me. The guy more then likely beat on it, but big deal. It's not gonna fall apart anytime soon.

whether its 'quality' or not depends on you.

IMO, any car is quality as long as the frame is straight and there's no major accident damage. everything else can be replaced.

other people are very anal and won't buy a used car unless it's on its first owner who happens to be a 90 year old woman.

I got my 95 SE w/ a FMAX stage 2 turbo kit on it with 65,000 miles on the motor for 5500 - there was minor body damage and the interior had a small hole in the dash (less than a dime in size). So I would try and talk him down a little too.

IMO it's not worth $4,500. If your friend can wait he'll be better off with an SE, at the most I'd offer $3,500.

EDIT:wait, your're in Conover thats not far from me at all. I'll come take a look at this thing tomorrow and I'll tell you what I really think it's worth.

I picked mine up for $2300. It's a base model,95, and it was an auto. I got mine like 6 months ago here in Charlotte. But That car only has minor mods done to it. I personally think that $3500 would be a solid price. Just make sure the frame is good, and anything else can be replaced. And hell if it does need some things i got a 95 base model that i'm COMPLETLY parting out and can get you mostly whatever you need. Shoot him $3500 and if he takes it cool if not move on.

you're the second person to compare an AUTO to this 5spd...

stop comparing apples to oranges...no one wants an auto...thus, why they sell so cheaply..
