This past sunday one of my tein tension rods snapped at a local event. Another driver how unfortunatly smashed the front of his car in let me borrow one of his so I could finish out the day. The original rod that was on my was PT# PTA01-1N200. These are S13 specific and where purchased about 2-3 years ago. The one that I was given is PTA01-1N640-1 and it is R33 specific. For the life of me I can not find the S13 rod anywhere not even tein. I'm guessing the R33 rod is inerchangable because it worked flawlessly. I have to return the rod soon and I am looking for a replacement but I can't find either. My question is this... From the looks of it (on tein's site) all the Nissan rods are now interchangable. It also looks like a new model becuase there is a slight bend in the rod vice it being completly straight. Has anyone dealt with this or run with the new rods? If so how do they perform?

Thanks in advance

Get SPL. Teins are skinny and girlie.

+1. SPL tension rods are really nice. Both my brother's have them. Don't replace broken parts with the same stuff! It shouldn't have broken in the first place.
I also really like Peak Performance, though I have not actually seen their tension rods. I have their RUCAs. Really nice.

Would pillowball tension rods be too harsh for a daily driven (not even daily really, just treet cruising) car?

The heim joint pillow balls won't change ride quality that much. In reality you won't notice them untill you go over a road deflecter and are paying attention.

The reason tein lists most of the parts between the skyline/s-chassis/z's is because they share alot of the suspension components; some are the exact same while others differ slightly. Most of the time the site will list a whole bunch of car models and in the end the part number is the same.

But the spl v2 rods from Kuah. He's a pimp and his service is top notch. I ran his v1 rods on my s13 and now I just picked up his v2 rods for my s14 and they are friggen HUGE. Kuah's tension rods remind me of Ron Jeremy's...

Make sure to purchace some sort of a front brace like a nismo or kazama that way you make full use of the tension rods.

I just got my spl v 2 rods as well. they ARE badass.

BUT, you guys need to keep in mind that the rods are HUGE because they are alluminum...where most others are steel. So the larger size is REQUIRED with the softer metal...

NOW- how did you snap the rod? what exactly were you doing? Also, what part of the rod broke? have you ever been in an accident, or over a curb with that part?

if not, i would RAISE HELL. I would negatively promote that product untill they sent me a new one for FREE. but i'm interested to hear how/why it broke first...

This isn't a thread about SPL...

To the original poster... IIRC the z32, r33, and s13 share the same tension rods. So tension rods for any of those models will work for your s13.

if you can't find a replacement, send me that spare Tein when you get new ones. :-D
