Redo what you did to take it off. But this time, place some sealant on the cover. Done.

I didnt use RTV on any part of mine and its been fine, just keep an eye on it. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that the RTV is to keep it in place while your laying it on. That and maybe longevitivy?

You really only need to rtv the cam seals in place.

RTV is basically a gasket maker.. the toothpaste like consistency turns into a rubbery gasket...

From the FSM available at zeroyon.com. You need the valve cover gasket. Ideally you would install a new one to prevent leaks. It's too big to cover with just liquid gasket.
You apply liquid gasket to the locations noted below, where the cam seals meet the cover.
Sounds like you should take it in for repairs. They should only charge you .5 hours of labour for replacing a valve cover gasket, or maybe even less than that.

I know what RTV is, but I dont know what its use would be with the valve cover gasket. I put mine on without any problems and no RTV. I think the purpose is to hold the cam seals from flipping in or out and not sealing correctally. I just put it on straight and torqued it down. Done and done.
