or more specifically the rb26dett vs the 2jz-gte. they can both withhold tremendous amount of power and abuse. so which is the best?

What is better? Just more hp potential?

03-23-2006, 07:01 PM
yup its true. Best engine ever build was the 2JZ. It can hold more HP on stock bottom end than than the RB. Only thing R34 had on Supra woudl be rarity in the US and 4WD.

both of the engines can make more power than I can deal with. There are kits to put the RB into my s-chassis, therefore the RB>2jznoshit

i figured that would be the response. ive heard you can get damn near close to a 1000 hp from the 2jz bottom end but what about the rb?

how bout change it up a bit then. how about overall cars? including motor, handling, style, value(as in if the skyline were in america) ect ect.

Hands down to the 2JZGTE it can be pushed to 600horsepower with a stock bottom end. That my friends is amazing its quite sad that toyota isnt getting there act together and making more Monsters like they did in the past.

When it comes down to it.. Toyotas go the longer mile with less maintainence.

Yeah a Supra can put down 1200hp, but it still can't get any decent traction.

I don't think you can adiquately say "A" is better than "B", since both engines are fairly equaly matched. In all honesty, it comes down to whoever has more money to invest into their engine that will out preform the other.

I haven't raced any supras yet, but I think I can take em. Unless of course, its some rich dude that put in a kachillion bucks into his car.

2jz... all iron block. can be stroked to 3.4L!

too bad its only rwd. even if i made 1500hp with it, it will be tough to get traction with all that hp. or even hoping other parts of the car will hold out

2jz ftw. Not even a question.

2j, I have personally done a 170k stock bottom end that did 930rwhp about 4-5 years ago. Amazing cars with amazing engines.

2JZGTE no doubt. I too have helped build one with a friend and its just amazing how they respond to abuse and power time and time again. As for the overall car, i would prefer a GTR. After watching those incredible movies from Japan of the Top Secret Skyline i cant think of other street cars that could keep up. Yeah from a 50mph roll the Supra, Viper TT and other cars would match it or even beat it, but i would personally bet on a Skyline with 100-200 less horsepower if both cars had street tires and a dead start. Its not really the top speed of the Skyline thats impressive. Its how fast it gets there from a dead stop.

I like the RB more personally...It weighs a good bit less and is designed better. The 2jz is done retarded!! The fact that it can make so much power on stock bottom end is amazing for sure, but ridiculous. There is extreme excess metal on the 2j in areas that arent even loaded! The RB is more of a racecar motor which is mostly why I like it.....I have a serious addiction. If I wanted a drag car , it is completely obvious what I'd want though =D

only downside of the supra IMO is the fact that its a big fat pig, and traction becomes a big issue with high hp. i think im one of the few that really doesnt dig the styling of the mk4. but it is an excellent car no doubt.

he is asking whats the better engine, not about traction. 2jz>rb

RSP13-Sideways

2JZ is a better motor overall because of the aftermarket support here in the US and Japan.

RB only gets manufacturer love in Japan, rare for manufacturers out here to make parts for it since the motor never made the debut in the early 90's.

As far as the actual car BNR32/33/34 > JZA8 (my .02)

Supra's are dyno queens....:keke:

definetly the 2jz, takes less money to make it more fast. the rb is nice but cant stand next to the 2jz equally.

Sil Beer S13

2jz is engineered way better than the RB. The RB head still shares the characteristics of the L26(not sure if correct engine code)that was in the old z.

RB bottom end can take 600hp but thats pushing it. If you want mad RB power you want the N1 block with has way better cooling channels.

Who gives a crap how much power a stock 2jz can make? Most of the big horsepower supras are dyno queens. They are absolutely useless, with a shitty powerband that jumps up from 300 to 1000 hp within 1500 RPM. How is anyone gonna use that? If I were road racing, I'd rather take a Nismo Z tune over ANY Supra with a 1000 horsepower 2JZ.

Then you run a GT35R or similiar and have a nice broad and flat curve and put the double wishbones at all corners to good use.... duh.

And comparing a ztune skyline to a monster turbo dyno/drag supra for road racing is kind of pointless.
