I have a blacktop SR20DET (Zenki) and i was wondering if I need to take off the stock recirculation valve (located under the fuse box) because I installed a BOV?
Thanks guys

If the stock recirculation valve is working ok for your boost level (not leaking), I would leave it. If you install a BOV, you can leave your stock recirculating valve. Hell, you can put 10 BOV in if you wanted to :)

But the best way is to remove it and plug up the line that goes from the SMIC to the intake.

Or buy an upgraded recirc valve that can be put in the same location.

if you installed a BOV you don't need the recirculation valve....

i'll take the bracket that holds it if you aren't going to use it...i've been searching for one for forever!!!!!

That would be best if you're still running the MAFS.

Well, I have a FMIC and there is a pipe that goes to the stock recirculation valve on the cold pipe, so id just have to plug that and the inlet that goes to the engine. I am running the stock mafs and the HKS SSQV, so you would say to leave the stock recirculation vavle? Thanks

Sorry man, if i do take it off id probably keep it. I've kept all my stock parts haha. But if decide not to i'll let you know.

Get a hotpipe with flange for your BOV and plug up the line for your stock recirc valve. Run the vacuum line that goes to your old recirc valve to your new BOV.

Just a warning though. I had many problems with the HKS. I tried to adjust it as much as possible but still ran very poorly. I switched to the SARD and it works much better.

Well, I've been running the HKS and its doing fine, but we'll see what happens when i take off the recirculation valve

Will taking off the recirculation valve make me run richer?

The way I'd see it (and the way someone already made fun of it) is the BOV would be useless unless the PSI level it's set to open is lower than that of the stock BOV. If you had 3 BOVs on a single pipe and the charge of air was at a certain PSI, the BOV with the lowest setting would open first and create an exit for the air. The other BOVs would be useless thanks to the pressure of the charged air lowering with the opening of the first BOV.

Basically, if you run both the stock BOV and an aftermarket one, if you aftermarket one is set for a higher PSI (which is the only configuration that would make sense), you've just rendered it useless.

I could see that happening if your BOV is vented atmospherically and the air that passed the MAF is already metered. Your engine will then pour plenty of extra gas into the motor and cause you to stall. A common problem. WHy not recirculate?

I was running vent to atmosphere (VTA). The idle is fine after the valve was adjusted, but it was running very rich when the throttle is closed, usually accompanied by backfiring. I am going to recirculate now.
