I was wondering...what would it take to get 200rwhp in a 91 240sx fastback? It's DOHC, right? I am considering doing this, because n/a hp is stronger than turbo hp, which is what I am considering doing. There is a 207whp Integra Type R that runs 12.7's, all because it is tuned perfectly and has an excellent powerband. If I broke into 13's, I would love it. And a daily driver, too. Any ideas on what I could get for $6000 to make it have that hp?

For $6k you could just skip all the hassel and get a Robello motor. They are tuners of some damn fast NA ka's.
Otherwise...
Pistons... compression baby
Rods
Fuel system (injectors, pump)
JWT ecu (have them up the redline some, adjust for the larger injectors, remove all limiters, power!
Stiffer valve springs
Blueprint and balance the engine (helps redline)
2.5" straight exhaust (keep your cat for those treehuggers)
Header
Port and polish
Valve job... stronger valves
lightened flywheel
underdrive pulley
awesome plugs and wires
ignition setup... (recommend Jacobs I.C.E. pak. Heard good things about it.)
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Mabey someone else will fill in my gaps... but if you have $6k now... talk to Robello. Someone else at FA did.. and they are happy as hell.

for 6g you should get more than just " break into 13's" cause if you want to get in to 13's, for 6g, i can buy a 240, "build it" to run 13's, sell it to you for 6g and still have enough loot left over to take me and my girl on vacation. seriously, if all you want is occasional 13's, drop like 500-700 on a n20 kit, if you want to run 13's all day long(which is not TOOO hard) go turbo, even without a full engine rebuild you should be able to run some decent numbers, and if you wanted to rebuild, which you may have enough money for(?), you can easily spank that 13.+ number you had in mind
sorry, im a nembie, im drunk, and im ramblin so take it for what you will, later, matt

Robello? How can I contact Robello? How much do these engines go for?
As for not getting nitrous, I want a strong, all-motor car that is reliable, and not just fast some of the time. I would like turbo, but I want a strong powerband and whatnot.
So, if I don't get a Robello, what you listed would get me 200rwhp?

Their web site is http://www.rebelloracing.com/.
They know their stuff about L, Z, and KA motors.

Look to spend about $4000 on a N/A motor from Rebello. They will do the following:
- port polish head
- install "street" cam with more radical cam profile
- tweak MAF
- raise compression with forged slug.
- balance bottom end
That is basically it. Rebello will work their magic on the dyno and the flowbench. Most of the power in the KA is unleashed in the head. Bear in mind, that these guys have years of experiance building datsun/nissan motors so the same work done by another engine builder may yield lesser results.
Add a JWT ECU, some bolt ons and your looking at 200 - 220 rwhp. I was going to have Rebello build me a one cam wonder, but I've elected to wait and perhaps go turbo ka24e.

Just for a reference here is my run down:
1. bought 240sx for $1500 ('91)
2. bought SR20DEt for $2650 (possibly '93)
3. exhaust, 3in dp, and cone filter $700
*a little calculator time*
$4850 total for a car that will run pretty damn close to that 13sec goal and still under the $6000 budget
And in addition I have an engine w/ the potential to make sick hp not to mention 200hp out the box
Do the math to me it just makes more sense but your car, your money, your project

nrcooled,
Yeah, I was thinking about the SR20 very seriously, but I'm a twat when it comes to being paranoid about legality, so that's out of the question, unfortunately That's a plan VERY similar to mine tho, looks liked you had it figured out!
geeaj,
Good, that is exactly what I am looking for! Someone who can extract the most power out by tuning! So 13's, whether it's 13.9 or 13.1 (of course, 13.1 will be harder to get), will be achievable with the help of their engines?
Thanks for all the help so far!

I think high 13 1/4miles are acheivable. Remember, traction has alot to do with the equation as well when you are putting out 200+rwhp. You may want to invest in a VLSD if you don't already have one to put that power to the ground.
Lightened flywheel and lighter rims would help alot too - reduce rotational mass....
Rebello engines are very reliable, if not more reliable then OEM engines. I have friends who have built L24 and L20Bs from Rebello that are pushing over 100K. Bear in mind, that these folks don't drive like Miss Daisy, they are to put it lightly, "abused" whenever possible...
