Ok, I've decided to go with the '91 240SX Fastback.  I have some decisions...

1)I will either buy one for dirt cheap ($1000-2000) that has a bad engine, and swap in a newer, lower mileage one (anyone have any estimates on costs and where to get a replacement stock engine?).  Depending on the cost, this is my first option.  After a bit, I would turbo it.

2)Try and try to find a low-mileage one (60-80k miles) for $3-5000 and turbocharge it.

3)Find a crappy one for dirt cheap and swap in the SR20DET...but, considering they are illegal and I need parts to be easily available, I'm not too sure on this one.

Any ideas on what to do or what you'd do?

Legal Shmegal.  Id personally go with the SR idea, seeing that if the engine was originally designed to have one, then one that wasnt.  Thats basically what I myself am doing.  All I need is a job.

1000-2000 is pretty dirt cheap...as far as illegal...well the SR is not, but far from accesible.  You can get parts for it very easy.

Any major Japanses manufacturer has countless parts for the SR.  Many of them have started to stock them in the US now.

I'd love to go with the SR...hell, selling my teg for $7500 and buying a beatup 240sx fastback for $2000, I'd have $5500 left to spend on the new motor or whatever.

But my concerns with that would be INSPECTION!  Bum bum bummmmm...I wouldn't want my baby taken away or have to put the engine back.  Would it be more feasible to drop a legal, n/a engine in and just turbo it?  I know people in VA who have passed inspection who have turbo. so it might work.

$7500 is great. &nbsp;$5500 can easily swap a SR with mods. &nbsp; But yea if inspection is a problem you're kinda assed out. &nbsp; You have the two options of either KA-T or SR both which are not legal.

hell in order to get any car fast you will push the boundries of legality. &nbsp; My FD was far from street legal but who cares it was fast ahah <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>
