From other posts ive read with similar subjects on this board i think the rev limiter is 5k im not totally sure but that SEEMS to be the rev limiter , someone correct me if im wrong and the only way to fix it is new ecu or reprogrammed ecu . hope that helps a lil bit at least , im sure someone else can tell u MUCH more than i just did . l8s
There is a speed limiter built into the ECU. The car will only go as fast the OEM tires were rated. Usually around 115 mph. The only way to change this is to reprogramm the ECU or unplug the speedometer.
A rev limiter is completely different. That limits the revs on the motor, not the speed of the car.
One thing confused me, you were doing 114 in FIRST GEAR?

No kidding, I wouldnt worry about taking the speed limiter off, Id be worrying about saving my life when Im doing 115 and my engine suddenly explodes in my face.

It's doing that so that you don't blow the engine by floating the valves.
