I have a FSM, but it didnt help. My key broke inside my ignition and im trying to take it apart. There are no bolts/screws that i can remove to remove the ignition switch. I have everything on the steering colomn off. Around the ignition switch I see 2 pins that stick out on opposite sides. I tried to push them in, but they just pop back out. I moved the key to the on position and they still dont go in. Can anyone help me please? Its my only car and i need to get it fixed.

Is the key turned? If it's straight you may be able to take a magnet and suck the broken key out. You could maybe turn it with a screw driver to start it since the keyed section of the key is in there. I replaced the ignition on an Oldsmobile once and it was fastened to the column with little screws.

can u post a pic of where you're at?
I broke a key once, and about 30mins with some decent tweezers saved me from tearing my whole column apart.

CAnt post a pic cause i dont have a cam at the moment. To give you a visual, there is no steering wheel, the wiper and turn signal assembly is completly gone. All that is left is the ignition assembly.

The key is way too far in for me to use pliers. What i wanted to do was, just remove it from the car, then face it down and tap it out.

I also jacked up my ignition switch, but put it back together. Now i get power, but the car doesnt start. Its another great day.

have you tried using tweezers with a bit of crazy glue on the tip?

ahahah, i was just thinking the same thing. but what if he put too much super glue on the tweezers and super glued the key inside the barrel? that would suck. i'd feel guilty if i were responsible for that. :drama:

This happened to me a few years ago with my first hatch. Had to use a drill to break off the ignition and buy another one with key from Nissan. I tried to get the piece of key out with pliers, paper clips, etc but it was no use.
If you start noticing you key getting bent or twisting when you turn on the car or open your doors I would suggest you stop using it and get a copy made. Trust me, this is no fun at all.

95blue240sx: good luck.

funny thing is, i put that part of the key in. I was about 70 miles from home at a friends place changing his clutch. When we were all done, i tried to test fit his kouki side skirts on my car. there was a push in pin that wouldnt come out so i used my key(dumbass [email protected]#$$%^%@#^%$&) and it snapped. So instead of calling someone(u idoit!) i just pushed it in and started the car.

I tried superglue and paperclips, no go. Even if i did have to drill it out theres not that much room and im so lazy to take the dash off. And to top it off i broke the ignition switch and my car doesnt start. did i say that already?

The lock smith would charge you about $50 to get that shit out out of your ignition, and if you're patient enough to shop around it could be as low as $25.

try using the other half of the key to take it out, put like glue or like a really thin peice of doubled sisded tape and wedge it in there and try to pul it out. or if not i gues a lock smith is what is gonna solve ur problem

Doooood i just bought and extra ingnition set i dont need. I only used the solenoid because mine was shot. To you question of getting the bolts out you need to use a 90 degree angled drill and drill the bolts out. They snap in place when you put a new one in for anti theft. If you want the new ignition set i got one with two brand new keys, never been used. Just swap your old solenoid and your good to go. The hard part is finding a 90 degree drill to get the bolts out. Trust me i tried at work. The guy who has a drill at my work left so..... yeah. Hit me up if you want it.

I hate keys! Nuff said. Having a spare hidden somewhere your car is the way to go. I've lost my keys and broked my keys so many times i probably wasted around $300 just because something always ended up happening to my keys. This will serve as a lesson lol.

You tried sticking a vacuum cleaner hose up to it? You'd think it would work.

You could try parking the car on a steep embankment so it's leaning towards the passenger side... Then bang the ignition, lol.

the keys locked in the chamber on the ignition switch. I think it would be a freak miracle to actually get it out. From what bj tells me the end piece of the key all the way in sitting, so unless it is able to slide out of the chamber pushing aside all the other teeth inside the colum that fits the actually key, i would think its snug. Plus he said he already messed the whole ignition anyway. sucks.

Did you try sticking the rest of the key in the ignition and starting it???? If it's not f'ed, I'd try that.

Itll start, thats how i got back home. Its just now, i can start my car with a screw driver. Doesnt make me feel safe, when there has been two cars stolen from my driveway.

Ladies and gentlemen, the dremal is out. Judd expect a call from me later, LOL.

EDIT: Progress was made. All i did was cut a slot on the "anti theft" screws and used a screw driver and got it off. Easier than i thought. They still wont come out though. I dropped it from about 3 feet lol. Oh well new keys are needed.

I just drilled that shit out and threw it away. Saves weight! Race car only though. Just run a start button and hella kill switches, quick release steering wheel, take all your fuses that would work for the ignition switch and your good!
