Tanabe 7's or Silk Road RM/A8

which coilover set would u guys buy. i know alot of people here like the Silkroads rma8 and alot of people liked the old Tanabe Pro DD. so which would you guys pick. need some help i cant decide. i own both and would definately say the Tanabe DD's if you can still find them. One of the best coilovers ive ever had/drove on. Big beefy components, the casing is an excellent design, ultra low and the dampening is easy and great. Not knocking the Silk Road RM/A8s though. Those are nice too, pretty standard coilovers with excellent build quality and clearance. Inverted monotube, 8 way adjustable damppening yadda yadda...

i would definately buy another set of DD's if they still made them. Swift is coming out with their Super Mach coilovers with an identical DD style casing, Swift springs, but i dont know what kind of shocks they are using

no way u can find dd's new anymore tho but sevens are coming in a month or two

silkroads aint half bad either, but id rather have tanabe

i wouldnt hold your breath on the swift coils, they're supposed to be released by now but no eta or any future in sight for em...been trying to get them forever

i wouldnt buy the new tanabes, non inverted dampers are crappy, and the fact that the main selling point is one of thoes stupid cabin adjustable damper gizmos leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I didn't realize this kind of decision required some thought. Seven's all the way. Hello !!! Tanabe valved by KYB, they know they shit!!! Regular setting 10/8 hard setting 12/10 hells yah got Tanabe.

and then with the sevens you can get that efdc thing that they came out with it. it was featured in last months modified mag. it sounded pretty sweet, it varried the spring rates dependig on how fast you were going. sounds pretty sick to me.

You mean the shock damping settings, and not the spring rates?

Because unless you physically go out there and change springs, there is no way the spring rates can change by some little gizmo device thing mounted inside the cockpit.

possibly i'll check on that. it works like the efdc from tien but it taps into the speed sensor and alters the settings acording to your speed

fyi, he wasn't asking you, he was correcting you. it adjusts damping. like sosideways said, it is impossible to change the spring rate without replacing the springs themselves, it is a property intrinsic to the material of the springs, and is not adjustable.

tanabe all the way, they actually spend time engineering their coilovers and check out each closely for difference and quality.

I would but a coilover system that can get serviced on from the manufacture, just in case something breaks. Tanabe is probably the best out there cuz they have JGTC drivers from ARTA test out the new sevens I believe.

The Tanabe 7 has a sliding valve mechanism that no one else has. Pretty cool stuff if you read into the technical details. The Silk Road is ok (really good for the price) but for mainly a street suspension the Seven is going to be more comfortable - Silk Road is pretty stiff. Remember unless you're on a race track stiff suspension is not better.

As for the TEAS speed adjusting dampening - sounds cool but pretty useless in real life in terms of performance. If you're going fast and slow down for a corner, you don't want your suspension going soft on you while you corner. It's just one more thing to worry about while you should really be concentrating on driving.
