I am really having a hard time choosing which car I want. I want to make my car Wangan all the way, and I know that the I-6 has good potential, but I also know that the SR can put out a pretty good punch. I have found both cars for 2500, in pretty good quality. PLEASE HELP!

And by the way, the Mark III is the Toyota Supra from 1986 to 1993, and the 180SX is the Japanese version of the 240SX Fastback, for those who dont know.

Dude! if you get that Supra Lead sled you come find me and I will race you in my Silvia and show you the mistake you made. I just went to the Not so legal Japanese street races and there were 180sx's beating R32 GTRs Once My friend finishes with the VCD I will find a host and show you. I have not met a Supra that could beat me yet. since (I am assuming) you are in Japan get all the 180/Silvia stuff you can get your hands on and Take it back with you to the states. $$$ I have three Front ends sitting on my balcony an 2 S-13's and a Kouki S14, I have skyline lights, I have a set of NISMO rear coil shocks for an S-14 they are used but still in good shape. I have a set of Monza front coilovers for an S13. My wife thinks its junk but it is not.

HAHAHA, Id give my right nut to be in Japan right now, but I know the capabilities of the Supra and I love it. The I-6 can run longer and wont be as harsh at higher speeds than an I-4. Im not totally sure if Im going to get the Supra, but Im pretty sure that I will. I guess Ill know what I get when I have it. This is really mind boggling to me too. UGGH. Im gonna go think some more.

Dude! My friend has a mark3 supra. The thing is a sled. The body feels like it is going to come of the wheels when doing any type of turn at high speeds. Out of the whole the ting is slow. The only good thing about that car is how strong it pulls top end. It pulls very strong top end. The 180sx is a better all around car. I would not even second guess my self and get the 180sx. It is just better. Easy choice, I can't believe you are thinking the supra over the 180...wrong choice..bt whaever, your car your choice.

Try driving them both and seeing which one you think feels the best...that might help your decision

You don't see many supras or even 300zx's drifting for a reason...they are heavy. They can power oversteer all day long but they lack the "tossability" you would have in the s13 or something like an ae86, rx7, ect ect...

It depends on what you are going to use it for. I would go with the 180sx because it is alot better at handling because its not quite as much of a sled.

My buds got an 89 Toyota Supra Turbo....So far, we lowered it with some nice springs and KoNI yellow adjustables, then added a nice intake, downpipe, and catback. This thing ahuls balls in a straight line, but once you start turning, it feels like the pig it is!

Oh, and hes had some major problems with some major pieces like the engine throwing a rod, than the turbo blowing on him (all stuff the previous owner most likely didnt take care of).

I would take the 240. MUCH easier to work on (the supras engine is shoe horned in there) and much more tossable!.

I know how heavy the Supra is, and in no way would I try and dirft it. Ive heard that with a good supsension set-up, that it can be really good in the twisties. Ill just have to find out meself.

Dood, get the 180, its a much better car. And in your name it says drifter, that means u drift, and if u drift or want to for that matter get a 180 you wont regret it

Well, it seems that drift keeps on calling me back. Ive decided that Ill go with the 240FB, and turn it 180 Spec. Seeing that the Supra is quite a bit heavier, and with the SR and upgrades, the 240 should be able to catch it.

my friend has a mark iii (after looking at this thread, who the hells friend doesn't) and it is slow off the line but once it gets into 4th gear, maybe the top of 3rd, that's when it will run good. not too bad for an 80's design that wasn't made for 'serious' racing. i'd rather build a 180. supra is too heavy, and that really holds the car back. but that engine wants to MOVE.

Wow that is amazing This is the first thread I have seen where more than 5 people have agreed on something. I need to sit down (Oh I already am ) I need to stand up.

I'm a bit confused... Not trying to insult but this is more of a question. "Turn it into 180 Spec"... wouldnt that mean get a 180 engine. What makes a 240 a 240 is a 2.4 L engine, what makes a 200sx a 200sx is a 2.0 L engine, what makes a 350 a 350 is a 3.5, and what makes a 300 a 300 is a 3.0... Now wouldnt that make sense that a 180 would have a 1.8 CA18DET? Yeah, it would. Getting an SR wouldnt exactly be 180-spec... or would it...

i believe 180's started with the ca18det until 1991 when they switched over to the sr20det, and before 1991 or 1992 or whatever the silvias and 180s both had ca's, not just the 180s. And thats just the top models too...the others had lesser engines.

Couple of things no one mentioned above:
1) Supras insurance will be much higher.
2) Condition of the cars ?
I would assume if they are the same price the 240 is in better condition or has lower miles, because the supra retails for alot more.

Also, bear in mind that your asking this question on a 240 board. Ask it on a Supra board, and they'll think you're smoking something funky for even considering the 240.

As DSC said, test drive them. Run them hard, take some corners, see how they feel. You can give both more power, you can improve the suspension, but you can't change the design of the car. Anything can be improved on a car, and both have alot of potential, but basic design of the car will stay the same.

If you want a drag or 1/4 mile car, go with the supra. It ultimately has much higher hp possiblities (twin turbo anyone?). If your looking for a more all around/auto-x car, go with the 240.
