A lot of questions are asked about the legality of modifications and what to do when pulled over in California. Here's the situation from the perspective of law enforcement, although I'm not sure if the video was made to train cops or inform/intimidate the public. It's a SDPD video, but the tactics are probably applicable everywhere in California. (Sorry if its a repost)

1. swap back to stock
2. pay the bar fee which is $500-800+?
3. sell your car

I was pulled over in my friends Hatchi and the car was not insured, not registered, and no Cat. Boom instant $1,300 ticket. Yea i was mad at the time, but guess what it was my fault. the only times ive been pulled over was while driving my girl's wrx(completely stock in and out). both times for speeding...50 in a 35 which i got away with bc he understood that i was trying to beat the clock to a wendy's drive thru. :p second was for a 96 in a 70 zone heading northbound on i-5 which i also got away with simply by talking my way out of. :coold: yeaaa..i guess you can say ive been lucky so far...;)

I love how people bash on cops. two things to remember here. One is if you have been pulled over repeatedly and have a bad driving record the cops now that. Ricks15 your targeted because you have managed to rack up a pile of tickets and the cops see that on their computers (which are all linked by the way) and figure they better pull you over.
I know , when I was just out of high school and in the first years of college I lost my drivers license courtesy of the Palo Alto CA PD. I had a gang of speeding tickets from them. Did they harass me? Sure! Did they follow me around town in my 510? Yes!
Did I get a exhibition of speed on the El Camino in Santa Clara in my pumped L16 510? Yes! Did I get a reckless driving ticket that was probably undeserved from the Palo Alto PD? Yes.
Did my driving record clean up after moving away from Palo Alto , hell ya, hahhahhahha.
YOu know what though, I had made my bed by not following the rules in a city known for being a speed trap. I speeded anyways and got caught and targeted because they knew me. In todays world with computers multiple PD's can have your driving record at the tip of their fingers , they are all linked to the DMV computers.
You have been targeted because they know your an offender. Its their job to keep offenders of the law from offending.
Second thing to remember is Driving Is a Privelage not a right!! Its stated to you when you took drivers ed. Its stated to you in the DMV license handbood for your license test.

I love the comparison of civil infractions to violent felonies. The Law separates them for a reason.

It pains me to see the police force wasted on stupid little stuff. At the end of the day it is easier for a patrol officer to write tickets than anything. DRAG and other programs makes it easier for lazy cops to hug the ticket book. I am in no way saying that all cops are bad or even a large percentage. Just like any group there are slackers that get by on tickets. That's why you'll see the same cops out day after day writing tickets even thou there is a ton of patrol officers in the department.

I love how CARB can take payouts from big factories that dump tons of pollutants that 100 dirty cars couldn't match. Then makes a great public relations campaign that it's the cars that are polluting. CARB parts in CA have to be tested in sealed rooms now cause the air is dirtier than the exhaust.

Alright tonight I got pulled over twice, I went to Mickey Avalons concert while I was driving home in Newport Beach with my friend on Newport Blvd. I got pulled over and the cop said I ran a red light and I was driving reckless, (which he came up out of his ass because I was well under the speed limit and red light was a bs because none of the lights were red) well they gave me a DUI test thing anyways and told me that they recieved a priority call (which was also bs) and they didnt give me a ticket and let me go the guy who was giving me the DUI test asked me if my car was modified and asked me if I had a seat belt for my bucket seat if it was a 3 point harness. but anyways they didnt seem to care about my car being modified that much my friend who drives a e46 m3 thought they would atleast give me a exhaust ticket after I dropped my friend home I got pulled over again in Huntington Beach and this time the cop said I was over the speed limit and then he walked around my car asked if it was modified and gave me shit for my carbon fiber hood and I told him that I already got pulled over earlier, so he was nicer so he just let me go. my car is loud as fuck and I dont have a front plate i thought I would for sure get a ticket tonight even though I was driving totally chill, I was atleast expecting a exhaust ticket but anyways I got lucked out.

Cops for the MOST part are doing their job,but there is definitely unfair or biased cops because cops are humans and opinion does come in to play. There are good and bad cops and everything in between. Personally I've had 3 traffic tickets. First of wich was 100% correct,I was doing excactly what I was accused of (funny,I was in a bone stock automatic 4 door.) The next time the cop lied about one thing,and wrote me up for two other things I was actually guilty of,funny how a loud ass stripped integra with SKEET on the plates changes things? Or maybe it was that I got a different opinion? Maybe he just thought I actually did the wrong?

and also, carpoo lane, i've seen several cops abuse that. and no lights on at all. but of cours,e there are the really nice cops. like when i got pulled over for goign 80 with a trailor. the cop (highway patrol: i think they are way more laid back then city cops) was really nice and even helped me find my way because i was slightly lost. haha.
and of cours,e there's the nice cops who you can chat with while skateboarding. yes. i loved getting busted for that. believe me, if you think you got shit for having a car problem, you won't get anything nearly as much attidute as when they get you for skateboarding. but then again, there's no fine unless you're so stupid you get put in the cop car.

-a old crap domestic keep back firing and exhaust gas smell like gasoline = let go ??????

Well I don't deal with SMOG and shit but agreed as far as getting pulled and what-not. I've really notctied imports just get hated on by cops...Geuss Slow and Curious fans are partially to thank for that :-/. Mostly young "kids" that are targeted. Since the introduction of the carpool lane. I have no problem with them using the carpool lane. Most of the time, I'm driving alone on the fast lane and would rather have them speed by me on the carpool lane, then them following me. lol

I hate cops!!! About 2 months ago my bro got an s13 with a sr and silvia headlight conversion. One of his head lights was out so he had his brights on(which are very bright) and he didn't inform me of this. So I took it around a couple blocks and dur de fuckin dur there just happens to be a cop going in the oppisite direction he flash his spot light at me and then started to turn around but he didn't turn on his lights so I continued back to my house. I guess he was following me but I couldn't see him behind me at all. Then I said first of all I'm wasn't running as far as i know it's not illegal to keep driving away from a cop if he doesn't have his lights on and this is my neighborhood why would i speed through here. He let me off with a fix it ticket for the head light. But still he was all gung ho and I'm just a fuckin kid. FUCK THE POLICE

Remember you aren't driving on your roads, you are driving on the governments so you should honestly stop complaining about your mods and how the cops harass you. good and bad points... i dont live in cali anymore, the amry has stationed me in NC, fort bragg for the last 5 years... but you DO drive on your roads... the taxes you guys pay over there just in gas alone is rediculous.... you pay those taxes for what? road and highway maintanence, and the like... all states do have some stupid rules, well not all, but most, about modding cars, luckily here in NC, they are pretty chill with them... but cali, wow, i will only be going back there for law school in a few years... not to live after that though.. the rules and regulations there are just stupid, and yes, SOME of the cops are assholes... some cop there on OC pulled me in my moms car, a 300M, and i wasnt actually doing anything wrong, i was just back on leave. he pulled me bsically ask why such a young lookin guy was driving this nice car. wow, what a douch i thought... but NOT ALL COPS are bad, by any means... i hate when people generalize about cops and military... saying all cops are [email protected]#$$ assholes and should rot in hell is up there with people saying that soldiers are all just baby killers etc... and if someone called me that to my face, well, id probably be arrested after putting them into the hospital...bottomline. dont be stupid, dont generalize or make comments in an exhageration(sp?) of the truth... just be cool, tell the story, and thats that... no need to wish all cops/military, etc. ... to hell... you know?

I hate cops!!! About 2 months ago my bro got an s13 with a sr and silvia headlight conversion. One of his head lights was out so he had his brights on(which are very bright) and he didn't inform me of this. So I took it around a couple blocks and dur de fuckin dur there just happens to be a cop going in the oppisite direction he flash his spot light at me and then started to turn around but he didn't turn on his lights so I continued back to my house. I guess he was following me but I couldn't see him behind me at all. that really sucks man, sorry to hear... but dont generalize... sure that guy was probably an asshole on a power trip, but i know a lot of really cool as shit cops, here, and in cali... you just hit the wrong one, you know? you can get a really bad waitress at a restaurant, but doesnt mean ALL waitresses are bitches, sluts, should die in hell, etc, right? dont sink to an asshole cops level... be better than them dude!

i have been gettin into cops issues for 2 times, luckily i didnt get anything (knock on wood), but they seems nice to me because im being polite in the first place and my drivin record is kind of clean too. i think if u treat them nicely, they will less likely to mess with you.

BUT...
Its true that cops are just doing their jobs. the only problem is the laws and guideline that the cops are following...
-a 95 db exhaust on imports = ticket
-a 130db+ exhaust on chopper/hodrod/domestic = no ticket ?????

-crazy hot rod engine swap modification = legal
-stock sr20det swap to 240sx = illegal ?????

-cop cars running 90mph in 65 zone in moderate traffic with no light, no signal = ok
-imports running 27mph in 25 zone = ticket ????? (believe that my cousin got it)

-an import with sporty sound due to exhaust/header = pop the hood
-a old crap domestic keep back firing and exhaust gas smell like gasoline = let go ??????

Like i said, i agree that cops are just doing the job, i just feel interested in who the fuck made the guidline for the thing that i stated above.
