well i was surfin and stumbled upon some sports max 17x9. frankly ive never heard of the company nor those wheels. the infamous zilvia search yielded jack-shit (maybe im not lookin hard enough). anyways to the point, are they another ricer company and what material are they made of. 540 for 17x9 +35 offset doesnt seem to bad and they look pretty decent with nice lip. anyways who heard of them and are they crap? (street/ autocross (soon hopefully) purpose)

Based on what?
I know two locals who run their wheels, good quality for the price but of course they are significantly heavier than a higher priced comparable wheel, if this is ok with the buyer than they're fine.

i had a set....very heavy, but they look great, and are pretty strong...never bent one and the roads are pretty horrible around here
offsets suck though
ok for 4 lug i guess
i liked mine overall

Good bang for the buck.
They are inexpensive and they look pretty good, but they are heavy.
If you are looking for a light weight performance wheel, then they are a no go.
If you are on a budget and just getting into race events then go for it. You probably won't notice a difference in the way the vehicles handles with heavier wheels. Just get good tires.

i was more concerened with quality, weight is not as big issue. i was more lening towards stuctural integrity quality because they are multi pattern drilled 4x100/4x114.3. im going to try looking in the pic thread for pics, if anyone has pics meanwhile mounted on s13 id appreciate it. i still have to recoupe from my coilover expense until can start to think of getting wheels + good tires meanwhile the stock re950's are doing a great job for what they are worth.

my friend has em, like everyone says, they're pretty heavy but, if ur looking for some cheap rims w/ some cheater lip its all good. they look pretty clean in 18x9.5 and 17x9, i think ebay has the set for like 450

yes thats were i found them but dont even want to mention e-gay.
explain "cheater-lip"
yay for me post #400
I want their new 0 offset wheels to beat on in a 17x9. But I find the title of their website (http://www.sportmaxwheel.com/) halarious. "Sport Max Racing The Pursuit of Lightweight Wheels". lmfao! :hahano: WTF are they thinking?
BTW, why the hell do they only sell the 962 in staggered arrangement? :ghey:

Think just a hair over 25 lbs a wheel
Comparable wheels in that size/price range are <20 lbs

So yes, they suck.

25 lbs isn't that heavy, that's like a 18 weight that isn't too heavy. I say go for it, they're cheap.

Those 962s.
They are heavy indeed. Much heavier than HOEzigens.
But you don't get lip on HOEzigens.

Look in the 4-lug wheel thread, there are several pictures of those rims in gunmetal with the polished lip. They look alright, but too heavy for my tastes. There was also a thread a week or two ago about a new wheel from them in 15x7 +0, I think 'sportmax' was in the title.

you want cheap wheels, get 5zigen FN01rc... those are cheap and quality rims. You want cheap heavy rims that every 4lug lowballer has, get sportmax.
I got fn01 becuase they are cheap, you can buy them used in pairs then buy another pair later when you have the money cuz people always selling them.
Wieght should be a major concern if you are looking for track wheels, becuase your powerband will not feel that great with heavy wheels.

k zilvia peepz tnx for replys and input. i just wanted a diff. route since fn's are so damn common. nice wheel's but just too common. i feel like sportsmax is the "knockoff megan racing" of wheels so i dont think ill be going that route either.

Well here's my comparison.
17x9 +35....25.5lbs for something like $480 a set on Ebay
17x9 +17....20.5lbs for $544 shipped from us
Spending $16 a corner to save 5 lbs of rotating mass? priceless

yes i think i already pm'ed and tried to get you guys to do 4 lug because i loved the weapons but it wasn't possible. my search continues but it will be a few month's before i will do wheels since i want to get wheels+tires at the same time. more interested in 17x8's non-staggered though so just weighing out options for now

they won't clear coilovers...and they are, like others said, ridiculously heavy.
pretty much means its not worth a second look performance wise, but you can buy them to improve your own ego and perception of worth. In other words...buying rims for the sake of buying rims
might as well get MUSTANG COBRA wheels, which come in 4 lug, and 17x9 +20 for around 400 bucks, under 500 shipped on ebay.

I have them in gold. Theyre a decent wheel, especially for the price. Heavy yes, but my work emotion cr kai with 225/40/18 kuhmo 711 werent that much heavier then those with 215/45/17, cant even tell a difference driving. Are you really worried about weight that much? Its not like youre going to road race with these wheels where it would actually matter. Daily drive, who really gives a damn. Its not like its so heavy that you cant spin them. There are work and volk wheels that weigh just as much, yet you dont see people complaining about them. Also, all tires dont weigh the same either. Falken st115 weigh 4lbs more then a ziex 512 in 215/45/17 (23.7 vs 19.8)but people dont complain about it. Point is I think theyre worth it for beater's.
Pro: nice lip, decent style face
Cons: on the heavy side, whack offset
In the end, it doesnt matter what any of us think. Its your car, your money and your decision. If it suits you, get it. If not, then dont. Dont always let peoples opinions justify your decisions.

i never let other peoples complaints opinions stop me from doing what i want. I DO however believe that a good opinion can stop me/other people from wasting money and doing unnessasery things. Also by examining other peoples mistakes i will feel better about my decision because i know its a good product/ adjustment to my car and not a waste of money.
In terms of wheels, i would like to hear opinions of the quality of the rim itself because just like suspension, it is a safety issue. If a wheel breaks/cracks you will get into accident. If i can get away witha quality rims and not have to give an arm and a leg on the price tag then that good. I dont feed into that "bad wheel/ good wheel" because "everyone runs them/ noone runs them" bs. thats why i want to hear actuall opinions from people that run them instead of a "yes they suck", "no they are great" responce from people that saw them on a website just like me...give a reason. this wont only benefit me but people that want to get wheels without spending a lot in the future.
long rant, but thanks for all your replies

The Falken RT series is heavier than the Ziex, i guess the rT's SUCK, huh? You realize what tires DO, right? They provide GRIP, so it'd probably help to consider how STICKY the tires are instead of some retarded point about weight. Rt's are heavier because they have stiffer sidewalls; those wheels are heavier because they're cheaply made.
volk? even a wider and 18inch volk TE or CE would be lighter than the 17inch sportmax

Thats besides my point. I just wanted to point out the fact that differnt tires are different weights. We arent talking about which tires are better? Of course you would want a better tire, but people concerned about the weight dont even know theres much, if any difference. Of course a te and ce would be lighter, but there are some like work eurolines which arent light, but the people who run them dont complain about weight, whereas people with sportmax do.

Thats my point. Some people dont always have well rounded educated opinions. If someone said, if they sell it on ebay must be crap, of course you arent gonna wanna let that opinion justify your reasoning. I stated dont always people opinions get in the way. But I agree, learning from other peoples mistakes can definitely help in your decisions.

The people that buy Volk Euroline don't usually care about going fast, they care about looking damn good. Furthermore, if they did want to go fast, they'd undoubtedly have a set of lighter track wheels; if you can afford Volk, you can afford dedicated wheels for different purposes.
The original poster obviously doesn't have the budget for two sets of wheels, and PRESUMABLY cares about performance. If you're only gonna have one set of wheels and you care about speed, it behooves you to make that set as light as possible. Now, if he doesn't care about performance, then the Sportmax would be fine, as would ADRs, Rotas, or other associated non-performance stuff.

but how are people going to know that when your site doesn't list shit? If I'm looking for a new set of wheels and checking out multiple retailers I would go for the one that has wheels listed and prices listed. You have 5 different wheels, no prices, no sizes, and no offsets. Why would I call every random performance store with a shitty store front when i can skip over to a good store front and get the order done without sitting on hold.
