For once i acually regret being in Japan...at least I've got a nismo 2way for the time being, no rebuild would be nice though.

Hey luke have you figured out if you can weld a Viscous yet? I've got an extra that I could ship, I wish I had an extra open diff. you cant beat $100 for complete predictability.
blu808
03-07-2006, 02:06 AM
Well we have perfected, everything except viscous. The reason being is that we reccomend our customers sell their diffs for the $300 and take their open diff and have it welded.
Other then that we can do torsion, open, and helicle diffs without any problems.
With the clutch and viscous diffs. We have determined that the only way is to dowel pin them in 14 different spots and then weld those pins through the casing.

03-07-2006, 02:29 AM
Just a question. Since these welded diff's are always locked, how is the performance on the track (grip driving) affected?
blu808
03-07-2006, 02:36 AM
Awsome. Handles like a 2 way. Still the only detriment in grip driving is that hard braking with little steering input will tend to get the ass out a little. Feels great in my opinion.

I have a weld locd version 3 on my car (more than half a year) and it is great. I used it in many events, road race, drive hard, and it is still in perfect working order. For the price you can't beat it!
I watch Luke weld my diff, he took his time and explained why it is a long process. It wasn't a micky mouse job, he knows what he was doing.

Hows the daily driving with these welded diffs? Is there much noise out of the differential? Im sure the one wheel hops when taking a sharp slow turn, but other then that is there really any problems with daily driving them? I am very interested in this but not sure how it will be on my daily driver

As for street driving. It is not as loud as a 2 way, but it does make some noise.
it also makes the skeet skeet skeet noise when making a u turn.

V3 is an Awsome diff! Grip, Drift, daily whatever! Prefer it over a VLDS, Clutch type and ofcourse open. I wont run anything different unless someone pays me! +1 for a GREAT DIFF!
RaidenKing
03-09-2006, 07:48 PM
This sounds good.
Any idea on when you'll be locating any open diffs? I'd like to get in on one but don't really have an extra open diff to throw your way.
SnakeKack
03-10-2006, 11:50 PM
How bad does one of these go through tires?
Also is is the car harder to turn? Like is it harder to turn left than right and the other way around?
blu808
03-11-2006, 04:37 AM
I will give out a little alignment secret here. run .015 toe out on each side and it turns in like a evo, with coilovers.
Believe me you will love it.
BTW. i didnt create weld locd to sell hella shit. I created it so people who didnt have money (like myself) would be able to get a decent diff, and not worrie about shit being rebuilt or breaking.

03-11-2006, 01:15 PM
Hey luke, will the Ver3 still have the lifetime warranty type thing that you had advertised on your page a while back? I'm assuming the ver4 will come with it also.
Props on a great product! I can't wait to see the FD in action @ altamont O_O
blu808
03-11-2006, 06:42 PM
Yes it will. If it ever breaks just bring the diff in, and i will reweld it, or i will weld your new diff for you.
Paul2x
03-12-2006, 11:12 PM
I'm very new to all of this, and I understand you can't reveal you secrets, but I take it from reading this, you can't "just" weld the whole diff. Seems a technique is nessary.
I'm just tyring to understand the lodgic....sould i say away from a diff that has been welded in no particular fashion???
thanks

so just to make sure i know what im gettin myself into, if get one of these diffs, the car will act like it has a 2 way in it? just trying to rationalize or imagine how it feels to drive a car with this in it. as for tires, besides ur toe setting, anything else u recommend?
slider2828
03-17-2006, 11:20 AM
Its like a 2 way always locd. There is a LOT of information ie driving impressions and idea behind the weld locd. I personally run one on my daily driver and I tell you its a lot of fun. Trust me search the tech forum and you will find a lot of information
sc ka24e

not very fimiliar with welded open diffs. would it be recommened for daily driving ?does it lock up during normal turning ? is it safe when its raing like its been latley here in san diego, i will be mainly dragging with occasional drift but most importaltley daily driving. lmk
blu808
03-18-2006, 02:19 PM
its fine. It is literally the same feeling as a 2 way lsd.
RWD_Bliss
03-19-2006, 08:15 AM
this is proably a stupid question but IF it were to brake would car still be drivable or will it leave me stranded somwhere?
ThatGuy
03-19-2006, 09:16 AM
If you can break it, then there is probably something seriously wrong with your car and you shouldn't try and drive any further anyway. When it comes down to it though, if you break ANY rear diff, you're gona be stuck.
blu808
03-19-2006, 01:25 PM
Havent had any break yet.

the diff is always locked, so you spin and skip the inside tire when you make low speed turns. it drives fine in the rain so long as you dont drive like a dick, i actually prefer it in the rain since it puts less stress on my tires when i turn. i run a locd ver3 and i daily drive my car more than i drift it, and i can honestly say that if youre not gonna see yourself drifting or drag racing on a regular basis, i wouldnt bother getting one. im not trying to put down any sales or anything but a welded diff can get on your nerves if youre just daily drive with it. i go through tires faster, and parking and U turns are a pain, but for me personally the trade off was all worth it. i remember when i switched from drifting with a vlsd to the welded, it felt like i was cheating because it made drifting so much easier (and fun).

i'll prolly be sending you mine soon...seems like you have a nice rep with everyone and ive been interested for a while
can i ship it removed form the pumkin for a weld V3? how much?
blu808
03-19-2006, 11:54 PM
You can ship it anyway you would like. I reccomend shipping it out of the pumpkin to save shipping cost. If you need to ship it with the pumpkin, then thats fine as well.
Also somthing to think about, is you will need to reset the gear lash if you remove it from the pumpkin.
Either way.
Thanks and if you have any questions at all feel free to give me a call.

i dont know a lot about the differentials in cars. i dont have abs or anything special so how do i know if i have a open diff or whatever.
i want to make sure that i can get this done

If you don't have ABS, and if your differential was never changed, then you have open differential.

we are lookin at 4 diffs for now but thats subject to change, we will definately call you with our info and who wants which version before we send them out. were hoping to get them all out by saturday/sunday at the lastest. how long do you think it would take to get those done and shipped? Thanks matt. I still do the cleaning. I start with wire wheeling the thick stuff off, then i goto the beadblaster, and do the rear cover.
I usually charge $50 since it takes me over 1.5 hours to do. But i have lowered my cleaning price to $25.

jesus, you came out with version 4 already?
i thought you had like no time to weld them up.
ah well, i can say this to all you others out there.
weld locd is fun :bigok:
i  it.
yes, it chirps when flippign a bitch daily driving.
but one thing is for sure, for almost 700 bucks less, and no break in time, and barely any maintenance, you cant beat this deal.
and luke's hella chill, he invited me to his bday party :w00t: but i was busy, damn.
luke, whats the diff in the diff's besides the extra welding?
would it be worth "upgrading?"

Luke did a great job cleaning up the diff for me. He doesnt just weld a big chunk of crap inside, he welds all the critcal points and welds a couple of plates to make sure it stays lock. Its worth the money in my opionion.

The Weld Locd diff is amazing. Weld locd>2way, haha. Had it for a while and it rides nice and all.
+1 for shock weld locing.
Thanks for the awesome product Luke :)
I'm definitely planning on doing this as soon as I get ahold of an open diff. I just have a couple of questions. How long does it usually take to get it back if I shipped an open diff to you? And also, if you've already shipped any, could you please just give me a very rough estimate on how much the shipping back usually costs (I'm planning on sending the entire pumpkin from the Kansas City area, 64063), just so I know aproximately how much it will cost me total.
Thanks for any info.
blu808
06-30-2006, 01:08 AM
4n: Thanks for the interest. A majority of our buisness is mail order. Shipping from your location should be around $48 each way. Also if you would like to remove the diff from the pumpkin then the weight is reduced and shipping would only be around $20 each way.
Thanks and let me know.
Luke
Alright, thanks. I sent you a message through email, but it was returned, so I sent it to you as a PM. Please let me know if you got it, thank you.
According to UPS, you should have gotten my diff guts today. I sent you the $90 for the version 4 to your Paypal. Please let me know how much the shipping was once you send it back, and I'll send you the difference for the shipping.
I can't wait to get it, hah.
Thanks.

sorry to thread jack luke but i'm curious what fluid you use for these?
blu808
07-08-2006, 12:55 AM
Since there is nothing going on inside the diff anymore besides the ring/pinion lash, and the stub bearings you can use any 75-90 gear oil No lsd additive needed.
Slidin240Wayz
07-08-2006, 12:41 PM
Can you do this on a VLSD?
Once I install it, should I do any kind of a break-in procedure, or should the fluid be replaced after breaking it in, like it is with LSD's?
fromxtor
07-08-2006, 03:44 PM
Luke,
earlier you mentioned gear lash having to be reset, how hard is this to do usually?
blu808
07-08-2006, 10:43 PM
Can you do this on a VLSD?
It would be better for you to sell your vlsd for $300, buy a open diff and have it welded.
fromxtor: It is somewhat involved. I would reccomend just bringing it to a drivetrain shop. They should do it for not more than $15

Well Torco oil sends me oil all the time so i usually wrap the diff in cardboard, then put it in a oil box, and tape the crap out of it.

Hey, I just wanted to ask if my diff has been shipped yet, so I can send you the shipping money.

ok if im sending you and open diff what exactally should i do before i send it out and how much do you think shipping would be from 17033... a lot of places around here wont do it and the places that will are jerkoffs and i dont trust them
blu808
07-14-2006, 03:46 AM
I actually know a girl in hershey that i went to school with in Los gatos. Weird huh?
To prep the diff all that is req is you drain all the oil. If its not drained before shipping and they detect a leak its like $500 fine for undeclaired hazardous items.
So yea just drain it, box it, and ship it.
The shipping should only cost around $40 for the whole pumpkin or about $20 for just the internals.
Thanks for the interest and let me know.

Make sure to include a note with the diff, stating who its from, return address, phone number, zilvia screen name, and how you paid.

It's pretty easy. Unbolt the rear cover, unbolt the bearing caps and pull the bitch out.

I have done over 200 of these and only 2 came apart. because one of the guys didnt put oil in it, the other because he had a oil leak and he ran it dry.
Most other people who weld it themselves have it break eventually.
Ours wont.

You seem to have a whole lot of happy customers. I don't doubt them. I'll prolly just find another open diff and have you weld that for me. That way I can just pop in the other open diff incase the welded one were to fail on me. Thanks for the reply. I may contact you soon.

I hope to hear from you soon. But just so you know our diffs feature a lifetime warranty. liability excluded, just parts.
And dont worry it wont fail.
