View Full Version : replacement wheel studs
I was installing the 300ZX brakes as well as new lines, rotors, pads for the rear today, and everything went well.
I was done, and putting all the wheels back on, until the LAST wheel, and LAST stud stripped on me... I don't know how.. but it did.
now is it possible to replace just one stud or do i have to replace the whole hub?
I've seen nissan wheel studs upgrades (longer ones), so I guess the studs can be replaced right?
how do i take off the stripped stud? just hit it out with a hammer??
thanks

Yes you can replace only one lug. If the nut is still on there just twist until it breaks off then pull the rotor off. Once you have the rotor of you will take a 32mm socket wrench and pull the hub off. Once you have the hub off just put it on a work bench or something solid and use a hammer and knock that stud out. NOTE: you should get the stud at an auto parts store first. (Save time) Well once you get the lug out put the new lug in. You should use an open end lug nut next. Hand screw the lug nut onto the new lug and once you have it hand tight use a impact driver and tighten it down until the lug pulls all the way through to where the fine threaded end is inside the hub. Then ofcourse take the nut off and replace everything in the reverse order. If you have anymore Q's PM me.

u dont need to take the hub off to replace the stud thats more work than needed.
yes remove the rotor calipers etc. use the hammer to knock the old stud out get the new one put some washers on it once u put it thru the hub hole. put a lug nut on it and tighten it down.
Thanks everyone for the kind reply. I got replacement studs and lugs today, everything seems to be working fine now <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
I was able to change the studs without taking the hub off using the method camppain described.
