Ok, so I spent like 30 minutes trying to get the inner tie rod off before I ran out of sunlight to no avail. I hope I didnt mess anything up. Ive read several "how-to's", but none of them are specific to the lock plate. What am I supposed to do to get that lock plate off of the inner socket?
I know its something simple that Im overlooking/not doing hard enough.

not exactly sure if i'm reading it correctly, iirc that lock plate has 4 sides to it right? i just used a flathead and bended them so i could take it off

Yeah, I tried that too, but I couldnt get the flathead in between the plate and the socket very well. Its 4 sided, but only 2 folds over the socket.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE REPLACEMENT CLIPS: on the round portion of the clip there are two places where the clip is indented into key slots(one on the bottom and one on the top). use a dremel or rotory tool and grind away those two spots so you can slide the clip away from the inner tierod.
IF YOU DO HAVE REPLACEMENT CLIPS: just do what the others said and bend the tabs away with a big flat head

get a hammer and chisel and hammer the 4 sides of the clip. Then get a monkey wrench (which is what i use and works great) and take off the rod..make sure to have the tie rod END unscrewed from the hub also.

then just be more careful when you bend the tabs back

Don't they just twist off normal counter-clockwise? Or Do they actually come off by turning clockwise?
My stepdad and I even tried to use a hammer against the locking pliers. Hope we didnt mess anything up...

it comes off normally counter clockwise. just make sure the clip is just somewhat off the rod. i even took a tie rod off with lock clip barely hammered off. PUT some elbow grease into it. (monkey wrench does wonders)

I had to use another jack and jack up the end of the locking pliers to get it loose enough to start twisting off.
I might have destroyed the locking plate though...I'll try to bend it back once I can tighten the inner tie rod.
