WTF did I just see? (Bay Area)

Alright, so I was driving on 280S towards 380 at around 12:30am last night; all of a sudden I see some blue flashes in the sky. "Finally, some thunder and lightning action," I thought. Then all of a sudden, the blue flashes in the sky flashed orange for a second. I thought I was tired, but then the sky flashed orange again! Then for the next thirty-forty seconds, the sky was intermittently flashing from blue, then orange, then purple, then teal, then light green, then blue. This was only happened at one section of the sky. It was really beautiful to look at.

Excuse my ignorance if I don't know what this is, but it's not something you see everyday. Can anyone tell me what I just saw?

it was reported on the news that what a lot of people thought was lightning was actually transformers arching due to the retarded ass weather we have. im sure thats what you saw along with some fire possibly.

I can tell you one thing that the weather can't be more retarded hen chicago. We've had days wehere it was like 5 degrees outside, and the next day all the sudden it's about 65 degrees. Stuff like, pouring rain outside, but it's really sunny outside. Random crap like, it's snowing, and 3 hours later it's warm outside and the snow is gone. Wow I hate this place.

hey, im currently in Russia. St. Petersburg to be exact and I come from Califronia. I'll tell u about ridiculous and retarded weather. One day its fucken -20 C outside. SO FUCKEN COLD IT CANT SNOW. And then the very next day, its about 5 degrees C. And this goes on all throughout winter. I cant wait for some Cali weather. But then again.. haha maybe it wont be too much of a change =(

Sounds like you saw upper atmosphere lightning. When lightning is REALLY high up there, it can sometimes change colors. Saw it on National Geographic once.

Bimmerlover, i was on the way home i remember it was 12:43. The sky lit up for a long-ass time. i was on 280N taking the skyline exit towards south sf. I looked up and the sky was lit for a good 10 seconds straight, then started flashing blue and then starting flashing orange. It looked like daylight almost. I looked over to the right and it seemed to be coming from around SFO. I know it was some lightning cause the entire sky was blue like the sun was about to come up and no artificial lights can do that. But the scary thing was it wouldnt go away. I've seen lightning strike, but never for over 10 seconds with no pause. I thought we had gotten nuked or something. i was hell scared.
