View Full Version : Yeah, yeah, another general car knowledge question

I know, I know .. I'm always asking non-240 specific questions. Sorry about that; I just never know where else to go. Anyway, it's not like any of us have never seen an off-topic thread here before.
That said, my girlfriend has recently decided that her Toyota Corolla is "not fun enough". Well, surprise, surprise. Guess she should've looked for a Celica, eh? Heh. Nah, the Corolla is a good car for her. It's roomy, comfortable, and just barely performs under her desires.
What she's looking for, mostly, is better corning at high speeds. Is there anything that might increase that responsiveness? Could the solution be as simple as higher-rated tires? Perhaps stiffer shocks? I don't think we want to go as far as an anti-sway bar (that might make it a little too harsh for her, but how would I know?). Then again, it's not like we could find an anti-sway bar for her car anyway.
So, who's got ideas about some kinda simple mod we could do to her car to keep her a little bit happier with its steering? Thanks. =)
Edit: Oh, it's a '95. Duh. I should've mentioned that.

Well, i think shocks and some lowering springs might help. Plus a bit wider tires. But honestly, if i heard the words "cornering at high speeds" from my gf, i'd be really worried....
P.S. i'm gonna get flamed by female drivers of this forum... i can sense it <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Seriously now, the strut bar would prolly be the cheapest upgrade
Here is what they have on ebay:

That's less than $30 with shipping

Good tires, good struts. I'm sure they make AGX's or Koni Yellows for that thing. Next, I'd to w/ a rear sway (since it may not even have one). Then springs.
TRD all the way (since I'm sure everything else for that car is crap)

Aww, yeah. She's got it all figured out now. Although it isn't definate yet, the plan is to sell the Corolla to her roommate and buy herself a 240.
She makes me so proud. =)

What is considered high speed in a 95' Corolla? 40-50 mph ? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

Hahahahahaha!!
I assume she means 70mph or so. I think her last car was a Dodge Colt, so that means seventy is pretty darn fast. She's led such a deprived life. But it'll all get better when (okay, okay .. if) she gets a 240 and she starts understanding why people sometimes go out for a drive just to drive. Ah, yes, a new world awaits her. =)
Of course, since the 240 does have obvious drawbacks for her (like the lack of any usable back seat, a notable decrease in trunk space from what she's got now, higher insurance, etc), it might never pan out. In which case, thanks a bunch for the repeated springs suggestions. Anything's possible, I suppose.
