View Full Version : WTF kind of brakes do I have?

Ok...I got some brakes from a front clip (still had brake pads with the split). Rotors were waaay larger than my non-abs rotors, calipers seemed to be larger. When I got to the auto parts store, I always have to get ABS brake pads even though I dont have ABS. I had to get my rotors turned to the min. thickness and the guy recommended that I didnt put the rotors back on the car. So when I got new rotors recently I got ABS rotors, since I have to get ABS pads right? Wrong. The ABS rotors are STILL smaller than the rotors I currently have on the car. Put them on the car with the caliper and they were just too small to account for the caliper. The rotors are already 4-lug, not drilled so obviously these are OEM on some 240sx (180sx/silvia?)

Are they altima rotors here in the US?:

Also, it looks as if the amount of contact that the pad is touching is about the same size as the new ABS rotor. Should the pad contact be closer to the center of the old rotor? (see the ring of "rust" closer to the center of the rotor):

I'm confused as well. What are you asking?

That looks like JDM 180SX brake discs. Try getting 93-97 Altima discs and 95-99 Maxima pads. Those should fit your JDM calipers.

So I need altima discs and maxima pads? hmm...

the 180sx in japan comes with bigger brakes than we have here.
its the same as 1995 maxima calipers and 1995 altima rotors (4x114.3).

get altima rotors and you should be good, thats the upgrade i did on my s14 and its a big improvement over stock

Do you know what front clip it was? If it was a 180SX then yes, get what I posted above.

Should I get ABS for the rotors and pads?

You don't have a choice. They're all the same. 240SX abs vs. non-abs are different, but for the Altima and Maxima for that generation it's all the same.

That looks about right. Take out your brake pads and measure them against the discs and see. If you're running the right pads there should be no overhang or shortage.

I got the altima rotors and although I havent side-by-side compared, they look bigger and seem like they will work. An interesting side note is that the Maxima pads and ABS 240sx pads had the same part number.
