anywho. here is the deal.
I bought an 89 240sx off of a guy online. when i bought it the sohc motor in it as shot. it had rod knock like a bitch. So i garaged the car for about a month.
I then bought a 91 dohc engine with 92,000 miles on it.
I began buying all the pieces i've been needing for my engine swap.
i bought:
dohc coil, dohc ps pump, dohc gauge cluster, dohc upper wirring harness, dohc ecu box. i basically got everything i needed.
i've thrown 2 fix and feed meets these last couple months.

What me and other zilvians were able to do was...
1. Pull out the sohc engine.
2. clean out the engine bay. and prep the new dohc motor.
3. change clutch, and pressure plate, pilot bearing and throw out bearing.
4. install transmission back to engine.
THAT WAS MEET NUMBER 1

i then called for a 2nd meet, this is what we were able to do.

1. Hoist up twin cam engine.
2. install ureathene motor mounts. courtesy of syko performance.
3. drop in twin cam motor.
4. plug and play the dohc wiring harness.

This is where i am at. i am getting really frustrated with this long ass project. i didnt think it would take this long to get this shit running. its been about 2 1/2 months. Considering the fact that my work hours take up most of my day.

so here we are. TESTING WATERS ON MY 89 240sx, with a 91 ka24de motor

I have pics on my car, and my progress on some of the other threads i have posted on zilvia.

give me offers for either the twin cam motor. or the chasis. If i dont get any reasonable offers. i will just part out the car. save up my money and buy myself a kouki. like i should have done in the first place.

THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS THREAD.

PS* i am getting really aggrevated because my car wont start. i have no idea what it is. it might be something small. but this shit is building up my rage.

well its in the shop right now as we speak. i tried to bypass the starter by hitting it with a screw driver and hammer. but that plan failed.
i checked all the fuse's and plugs. but everything looked fine. so i took it to to a shop. know what they told me?

1. i have to go to state ref. to register my car because!
the car came with a sohc motor. and now it has a dohc motor.
this is only for smog issues. because they look at the motor and the chasis. annd match it all up.

2. they said its going to be a bitch finding the wires that are suppose to be grounded out.

3. they just basically kept telling me..it would have been 99% eaier to replace the blown engine with the same engine. ka24e.

Sorry to hear that your giving up on your project. And sorry to all the zivlians that came out to help you to try to get this thing running and now your selling. (Not to offend you or anything). But goodluck with that Kouki, and also good luck with the sales

yea man. i really dont want to give up on this project. its just that i'm spending too much money. on this car, and leaving myself struggling.to pay my bills..such as rent, phone, etc.

i bought a new battery today. put it on to see if it would do any diffrence. still the same. clicking in the boxes.

here is an update:

a couple of days ago i took it to a auto repair shop.
i left it there for 2 days.

they were able to start the car, by bypasssing the relay and fuse boxes. by inserting a paper clip in the harness. and by giving the alternator + positive power. the alternator was turning .a nd the car started up! i was so amazed. they didnt let it run long. considering there was little fluids.

this was my motivation to keep working on it.
but then i have been getting good offers for my car, chasis, tranny, and motor. so i'm in a dump. thinking whether i should continue my project. or get the cash i need. :(

It was probably the starter relay located near the battery. I say fill it up on fluids and drive it for a week. Then if you still want to sell it, go and sell it. Don't make decisions too quickly before getting the info you need to make a decision. My car didn't run because of that relay for 3mos. I do have another car, my civic, but at that time it wasn't running because of a loose neg. connection in the engine harness. And it didn't run for about 6-10mos after I did a stock motor swap in it. So I had 2 cars that didn't run and I work on cars. But I stuck with them and got them both running after many frustrating troubleshooting days. :hsdance:

yea. thats some good advice drew. its just that i keep running into problems left and right.

like today when i was checking the button on my clutch. i realizedthat the previous owner had installed a clifford alarm system! so there are hella wires comming under my dash.and i have no clue about alarm wiring. it has some magnetic sensor also.

but the mechs at the shop told me it was my relay near the battery. so they went ahead and purchased one for me. and that wasnt the problem they said. they told me there was a problem from the igntion key all the way to the starter. somewhere along those wires . they said it can cost up to 1000 just to find the problem and fix it..

but i have gotten some reasonable offers so far.
so i dont know...still deciding onit.. i've been sleeping on this though for about 1 week or so

for the Clifford alarm, you can get the wiring diagram off 12volt or somewhere. As for the ignition wiring, that would be probably not too much to fix. They're just wires that you can replace with another thicker wire/cable. But it's good to hear that some was some progress made on it. ;)

Yea, I know how it feels to get slammed with problem after problem. My car had the same start up issues as you did. Took out the alternator, battery, starter, and bench tested them all myself. Car was down for about 2 weeks where I had to goto work every single day I didnt have a car. It was depressing and its very hard on a regular daily schedule to deal with a problem and perform at your very best at your job + with your social life. But you gotta see the outcome. It sounds so tyical to say, but once you find that problem, and it seems so hard at first, and think back.. wow fucken so easy.. it feels good rather than partting it and starting up a whole new can of worms.

Oh yea, mine was the relay also, took a little looking around and using the ear to find out what the culprit was. 25 dollar fix. But yea man, like everyone else will tell you, think really hard on what your giving up on, and what new problems await. Cause you can't always run away from difficult situations and expect for the next car to treat you like a king.

My .02

seem like you said the previous owner had an alarm and you didnt know about it? Maybe it alarm wiring is in the way. by pass the ignition relay for the alarm and hoook up the ignition wires back together. Prety much go find the brain of the alarm and disconnect it all but make sure to connect back wires that are oem that are splice or whatever.

yea...the previous owner had this car rigged up super clean. it has that magnetic strip, where you waive a magnet over a certain part of the car and it bypases the alarm lock. pretty damn crazy.

there are a shitload of wires everywhere. right under the steering column. there was a brain of the alarm system. and it had a shitload of oem wires hooked up to it. i'm dling the schamatics as i speak..but this seems so complicated.

update* i got a 96 kouki trade offer along with 1500 dollars. car has 103k miles on it..car looks badass.. i drove it and everything seemed really cool. i guess the guy wants to start a track car with a hatch..

i'm still a bit confused on what to do.
