View Full Version : I just got my polyurethane t/c rod bushings
They just came in. After my tracking saying they were in Washington state since may 17th, I just checked again today and they said "delivered"...I went to my front door and sure enough, there they were <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> Cool!
They aren't whiteline though.
They are "Super Pro"...Polyurethane Suspension Components.
I dono what's up with that and I honestly don't much care. They are polyurethane they are t/c rod bushings *shrugs* ...it'll work.
Notes:
1) Don packs his own boxes...with his morning news paper <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> Its fun reading his news paper <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'>
2) The bushings are purple and smell like dog food
I'm gona go try and find a shop to put these in, I'll probably come back in a couple hours complaining about my hurt ass and bitch about how lame they all are and ask how to do it myself...

Why not change them yourself? I'm having a bitch of a time getting that damn bolt out but i'm also saving a TON of labor charges (which I'm using to get the front sway bar <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> )
I have no clue how to press it in. I was told on FA that a vice grip won't work. He mentioned using a "shop press" but I don't even know what that is.
Also, a n00b question. Where do you place jackstands for the front? I always used my t/c rods (what killed my bushings) because a mechanic told me it was ok. DOH!
Anyway, now that I CAN'T use my t/c rods where to I put my front jackstands...assumeing I can find a shop press for like <$20 and end up being able to do it myself (my fav way anyway).

Super pro is Whiteline. If you go to their australian webstore and order a set of bushings for our 240's (set spf1009k is the part number i used) they come up listed as super pro bushings. Not sure if its a product line or just what they use, but those are whiteline bushings.
The hard part of pressing in then new bushings is actually taking the old ones out. From what I've heard you can put the new ones in with a vice, but it's almost easiest to burn out the old ones unless you have a press.
In any case I should have firsthand expience of what it requires next weekend when I install my full works whiteline kit with all new bushings, sway bars, springs, and koni shocks.

This is a press.
You need to have one of these to get the old bushings out. You may check a local NAPA or service center. They could press them in and out for you.

DSC tell us how it goes and how much they charged you to press them..
Don is a nice guy but I kinda had a bad experiance with him. I ordered my whiteline front and rear sway bars april 1st and just got them a week ago(with the front mounting hardware and bushings). Right now I only have the rear on cause im waiting for the rest which was whitelines fault not PDM. Here is the part im not happy about... I just got a bill in the mail for 20 bucks from UPS Customhouse brokerage for the shipping of the sway bars... I asked don about this and he said there was nothing he could do about it.
I know its only $20 bucks but thats not the point...
Dont get me wrong Don is a nice guy and has hella customer care going on. I

I am one of the lucky ones and have access to a lot of tools and machines (military) but a great thing to do is to take off whatever needs to be fixed and take it to a shop.
It will save you sooooooo much money its cool <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> Anything you need fixed and don't have the right tool just do that. For instance a hydrolic line to the HICAS system busted and Nissan wanted like $200 plus $300 for the part. I went home took the whole line fitting off took it the a hydrolic line shop and they repaired it for me good as new. The whole thing cost me $35 bucks.
Cliff Notes:
1. Take off your own parts
2. Take to shop to fix
3. Put back on car
4. SAVE A SHIT LOAD OF MONEY
5. I saved ($500-$35=assload of money) $465 bucks

DSC, i thought you could jack up only on our stock jack points because of the frame rails being kind of "flimsy". Either that or some frame point up front...

the stock jack points are right behind the front wheels. If you look, you'll see the frame rails running down the side of the car.. I think they are about 4-6"'s from the side of the car. about 6" from the front of the rail is were you should put the stands. Thing is, did you bend your T/C rods by jacking the car up by them? if you did, your caster will be off.
you can use a shop vise (one of the bigger vises that you usually see bolted to the workbench in a shop.) to press in the new bushings if you can get the old ones out. getting the old rubber bushings out is the hard part
edit : It never dawned on me when looking at this pic where your jack stands where. So you had them right under the T/C rob mount that held the bushing then right?

you can put jackstands underneath the rocker panels where the rocker and the body go together, you'll see the spot that looks more "hefty" but you can do it there...thats where ive always done it, and its where i put the pads when i put my car on the hoist
Just to add, I know how to jack the car up (obviously since I had my car on jack stands in the above posted picture). However, I don't know where to jack it up using a hydraulic jack (floor jack). Mainly I need to know where to place the jack stands other than the t/c rods. The jack stands were actually on the t/c rod up near the bushing but still on the actual rod part. The t/c rods do not appear to be bent, the bushings took most of the trauma...cracked and oozing.
Guidot, actually I was being nice <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> I was giving her a nice new front sway bar...however the information I got from a mechanic about where to place my jack stand proved to be bad information <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>
ridebmx, could you be a little more specific for me? I don't know what the name of all that stuff down there is. Can you tell me in relation to the lower control arm? Can I see the "hefty" part with that plastic engine protector thing, or will that have to be removed?
BTW, I plan to burn my old bushing out [fun!] and use metal cutters to cut the bushings metal housing out.
I got in touch with a guy running his own machine shop (on recommendation from someone who sells remanufactured heads...not a dumbass like everybody else around here <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>) and he will be able to press it in for me. Shouldn't cost much to just press in 2 bushings and 2 center pieces. I'll let you know how it goes this weekend.
Thanks for the help everyone!
Lazybastard Notes:
Fuck off, lazy bastard, its not THAT long...err umm... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/lookaround.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':look:'>
I need to know how to jack up the front with a floor jack
I need to know where to place my jack stands.
I'm jumping on the bandwagon of using "cliff notes" <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
DSC, i just ordered my front bar from Don
i am also considering the polyurethane bushings in the future, please tell me how affective they are and how much the labour was...
are you getting the control arms too?<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

DSC:
I take it that u think that the metal keeper rings are supposed to come out...I've burned out the bushings but don't know what to do about the keepers and the little bumps inside the bushing sleeve.
BTW: 2 hrs on your back cutting your t/c rods out w/ a hacksaw = sore back. Next time i buy a grinder.
