so ive driving around for 2 months getting used to my lsd clunking whenever turning at low speeds. today i change all the fluids in my car cous i will be driving it to LA for vacation and D1.i purchase redline gear oil 75w90 and find redline friction modifier additive. i say what the hell and give the friction modifier a shot and add it in my lsd. go out for a test spin and no more clunking what so ever around turns at low speed. Yay!!!, one less noise in my car is gone. now only if i can get my b&m short shifter to stop buzzing at redline...

lol. yeah i need to change my diff fluid too. anyone know a good additive for a kaaz 2 way. i never bothered trying any of them out, heard you can mess stuff up by using synthetic oil and the wrong friction additives etc.

+1 aaronsan.

I was actually going to link to Juan Maeda's thread regarding this recently, and congratulate the threadstarter for discovering a well-known fact, but I decided against it.

doesn't this make the diff grab less agressively?

^^ Yes it does, but he doesn't need it grabing hard when turning corners from a stop at 5mph. It still grabs when you need it to by just applying more power.

i had a thread on this not too long ago.

FOR TOMEI AND KAAZ you only have to avoid a few things.
AVOID SYNTHETIC.

Run Valvoline 80w90 GL5 with Ford Friction modifier (at dealership for $5)
or Run kaaz fluid. No need to add additive for the Kaaz. More slip you add, quieter your diff will get.

I believes its okay to run full synethic gear oils in other clutch type differentials like Cusco and Nismo

I assume this is the nismo street 2 way in which i have... Thats odd i wish mine grabbed harder/more agressive and when it does clunk shake the shit out of my car....different strokes for different folks i guess. 2 way ain't a 2 way unless it clunks I just love how people give me the odd stare when im trying to park

thanks for responding 2 months later when i asked people before on zilvia about clunking lsd'z. anyways tried the redline with friction modifier mixed in already before and it didnt do anything for me.

when i purchased the lsd i bought it new. never gave me the clunk noise until i changed out my clutch. people said it was harsher engagement from the clutch. i do change my lsd fluid every 1500 miles or so with redline and finally fixed the noise. i was used to the noise that it made but kinda weird when i got my gf mom in the car asking if my cars falling apart in tagalog.haha

yeah just read your old threads
if u stop up grading yoru car u wont have these problems
mo upgrades mo problems.

your clutch is the reason, put a stock one back and it will be quiet now

redline for nismo is the way to go. ive said it a million times on so many threads.

depends on the Nismo
my Nismo SSS is quiet as a dead 4 year old and even w/ a upgrade clutch its no noise

sorry its a nismo street 2 way... "stop upgrading my car" NEVER!!! thats true though more upgrades more problems but also more upgrades more fun!!

this thread is awesome! I have learned so much. I also have a nismo 2 way and heard to add additive to reduce noise but I did not know that the additive would reduce grabbing as well

Same here I didnt know it would be less aggressive , I used a full bottle of ford friction mod with 75-90 valvoline, And i just thought the lsd just sucked. I thought my vicious was better. Probably not gonna use FFM anymore..

In case anyone is wondering, the friction modifier doesn't work on Tomei Technical Trax... Mine is still loud as hell.

i use 90pa with amsoil modifier... shits still loud as hell (2 way kaaz)

clutch - HRclutches 760HD unsprung 6puck - 2750LB clamp... that could be the main culprit
