View Full Version : AEM short intake and Injen Air Intake?

which one is better? why? can you put cold ait extensions to both of them? or are cold air extensions only for the injen intake and cant be used by AEM short intake?
I've never used either one but its my understanding that they are both metal pipes of equal length and diamater with a cone filter at the end.
Only advantage of the injen (other than the cool name a i believe a sticker) is the ability to add the cold air extension...something you cannot do with the aem.

there is a pretty good price difference! without the cold air extension are they basically the same? and is the cold air extension worth the 120 bucks? or does it not add that much?

personally the CAE makes the intake much better. I used to have the short ram, and without some sort of heat shield the filter element would get very hot, and as the engine warmed up, so did the air the intake was consuming, this would cause a noticable performance loss. With the CAE that never happens. Also injen has incorporated a velocity stake into the Filter that they claim increases air intake velocity, thus increasing horsepower. That's why you don't want to just put any old K&N filter on it. You would lose the velocity stack. You also don't get this with AEM.
Just a side note.. I've seen an Injen SRI out perform an AEM CAI on an RSX.. This was done on a couple different times with multiple Dyno runs each. So I DO believe Injens claim about the velocity stack.

ok.. so if i undestood all you said... injen is much better rite? and also... is the cold air extension worth the 120 bucks? or does it not make enough of a difference to be worth buying it, unless you got cash laying around....
Spoon feeding time...
Yes the injen is better then aem even without the extension (something I didn't know until reading chimps post)
Yes the extension is worth the money BUT can easily be added on later if you don't have the money for it all now.

I say bla to both.. Relocate your battery and make your own intake.

I just wanna add.. when I say "outperform" the margin is VERY miniscule. probably only 1-2 hp. As far as performance goes, I doubt there is really any noticable difference.

intake performance of another car should not be directly linked to intake performance on our car.
i'm getting the aem just to be different

correct me if i'm wrong, but i was under the impression that the aem intake was 2.5" diameter, whereas the injen intake was 2.75", hence the need for modification if you were going to use an aem bypass valve w/an injen CAI?
btw i used an injen SRI for about 6 months before putting on my CAE (after rainy season), and the difference, while it may not be much on paper, is pretty big in my opinion. i dunno what i'll do when i take it off for the next winter season...

u gues got it all wrong...the only real differance is zincromium paint.......it's a speical paint that keeps heat out and radiate heat out better

Same...plus the fact that they both subcontract from the same company to make the filter elements...
Get a AEM filter and a Injen filter side by side and you will see that they are the same.

ok.. so AEM and Injen intakes are about the same... but my question now is.. does the cold air ext make enough of a differance that i should get the injen because of the capibility of adding the extension?

I just installed my Injen intake; I drove it w/out the cold air intake the first day to compare the difference w/ it. The car pulls harder in lower RPM w/ the cold air. So IMO, the Injen intake is worth it. Buy it from Enjuko.com though, you'll get it alot cheaper.
BTW, I read somewhere that the Apexi MAF could be installed w/ the Injen intake. Does anybody know if it will give more power? Does anybody know of another MAF that will improve performance?

he means enjukuracing.com. You can just email
[email protected] and tell him the guys over at Zilvia said he had the best prices and service, and see what kind of deal he can do for ya.
Dunkee - Do you mean Apexi Filter? As far as I know apexi does not make aftermarket MAF's for the KA. If you meant filter, you really didn't read my earlier post.

Sorry about that brstyle, I was writing off the top of my head; It is enjukuracing.com.
Sykikchimp, I did mean an MAF (I read your earlier post; It was informative). I will give you the link to what I read (last review of Apexi filter). Apexi review (http://www.carreview.com/pscParts/Intakes-Filters/Apex,Power,Intake/PRD_88542_2876crx.aspx)
I am not sure if Apexi makes a MAF but that's what I got from that review. Do you know of any other after market companies that make a better performance MAF?

What they are talking about is the MAF Adapter plate that the filter attaches too. As far as I know the only upgrades for the MAF are to use a Ford Cobra MAF, or a 300zx MAF.
I have read a lot of REALLY good reviews about the apexi filter, so It may help in this situation, but damn it's expensive when you've already spent $240 on a CAI.

I read about the cobra MAF too...I think WEST has it under his mods, but I asked Ken from Enjuku and he said it won't do anything unless you have a turbo; He added though that the KA engine isn't really good w/ forced air...?

BAH... He probably means in stock form. Cause without an upgraded fuel system, they aren't good for turbo.
and he is correct, there is not reason to upgrade your MAF if not going FI.

Well the Cobra MAF is usually a conditioned z32 which is great for a turbo car....the reason you don't need it for a non turbo KA is that you will never out flow the stock MAF.
Also it's not like you can just bolt on a Z32 MAF on a SR w/o the control for it.
