Yea it'll be the same platfor that the new Camaro will be on. But that's not scheduled to bout until 2008 as a 2009 model. So I wouldn't hold your breath. Especailly cause GM can't afford to make many more mistakes. The Camaro is CLOSE to the Ok, but it's still so far off, anything can happen.

good, the GTO looked like a pumped Grand am, or gran prix anyway. I only liked the back, and the exhaust sound. They should have given it alot more thought and then released it with styling cues as close to the og as possible. Look at the sales of ford's new mustang, and the charger, and what will be the new camaro. They will all sell way more I can bet, just based on their looks and the retro styling back to when muscle was mean....the GTO looks very sissy compared to it's predecessors.

well, GM didnt really have much say...it was barely even GMs car...holden made a good thing...it was GMs/bob lutz's mistake to badge it as the GTO...if it came over as a holden, you wouldnt have babies crying about it not being "american" or nostalgic enough...its because its not and was never meant to be...

'nuff said.
The GTO was badass. 400hp, decent looks and a damn cool daily driver compared to an econobox.

I dont mind it. It looks alright. Good power. Im not sure sure about handling though. I think they are gonna be worth something in the future.

I wouldn't call people's opinion's stupid (that's why their called opinions). :ghey: I think their very justified. When you think of the name GTO in 30 years, I don't think anyone will say, "Hey remember that awsome one they made in 05!?"
It was hugely dissapointing to most everyone. And then on top of the fact that GM screwed over the people that bought the first year ones. That would leave a pretty bad taste in my mouth if I was one of the people that rushed out to get one.

I loved the engine and exhaust sound, and a little of the styling.
Too bad.

Nostalgia tends to cloud people's thinking.... the new "GTO" does just about everything better than the originals, it should considering it was made 30 years after, but owing to the fact that it didn't have some ill concieved and poorly executed retro styling it was looked at as a pretender by most of the unwashed.... I liked it for what it was, a relatively modern and affordable 4 seater that is basically 12 second capable out of the box and with some sway bars, shocks and tires can hang when the roads gets squiggly.

I for one am not a muscle car fan. Yes it does pretty much EVERYTHING better then the OG GTO. BUT the GTO was a monster and an icon at the time. The new GTO is hardly an icon of anything. It had no soul, no presence. If it had an altogether different name, I ACTUALLY think it may have been more successful. Like I said before GM or bob lutz's if you wanna blame him direectly dropped the ball.

were they screwed because they "only" got the LS1?
just because the later model cars get bigger and better things doesn't screw the people that got the older models. Most cars, especially "sports" cars make changes throughout the production. That's just status quo.

Oh absolutly! But 50hp after just one model year!? That's a kick in the teeth if you ask me. The first year people rushed out to get one, paid more because of dealer mark up and then GM turns around THE NEXT YEAR and adds 50hp to the car for th same price. I woulda been pissed personally. Think about the value of the first year cars now. Garbage compared to the second and third. Way to fuck over your customer's right away on depreciation. I know all cars depreciate, but shit like that makes them nearly worthless as far as used cars go.:duh:

Very true. I have pretty much alot of the same thoughts about this car. I have always liked muscle cars though and when you think back to major players of the day there are ALOT in the time of the og GTO, and a handful today....of those many I can name in higher ranks than the GTO. I personally dont see anything in the current GTO that makes me wanna remember it...except Rhys Millens. If it wasn't for his, I would be aware of the GTO but it would not have any real impact on me to remember it as a major player.

That was the fastest fucking boat i've ever sailed!!!!!
It was VERY big on the inside, but fast as hell. Handling....thats a negatory though.

which brings me to my next point...it would be interesting to see of all that have commented, who has actually driven the automobile that is under such severe criticism...and if the accusations are justifiable...
i for one, have driven both the LS1 and LS2 powered GTOs...exterior is on the bland side for a GTO...but for a holden, just right...power is not even an issue...handling can be improved dramatically with any upgrade ranging from springs/shocks to coilovers...what besides the higher caliber cars can have satisfactory handling from the factory? meaning ready to handle track ready scoobies and evos and keep up with sliding 240s and corollas? not many...so dont be so critical and accept the GTO for what it was...probably the best bang for the buck car out for two years...its on its way out anyway so theres no point in badmouthing it...give credit where its due and praise it for everything that it did right...(which IMO, is way more than what it did wrong)
and the only reason why im defending it to my bloody death is because im taking over my bro's residual on his 06 after two yrs...glad i got mine :D

I have not driven one, but I'm not talking about the 0-60 of the car I'm refering to why it failed and agree that GM should be axing it. I'm not denying the fact that it's RWD and has 400hp.

I personaly loved that fact that GM brought back the gto. I just didn't like that all they did was rip off of holdens design and rebadge it. When I see the current GTO on the streets it doesn't remind me of the origonal. It just looks like a Grand Prix on steroids. They got what they deserved. I would be fine if they bring it back in a few years, as long as it has styling ques from the origonal.

"I for one am not a muscle car fan." - your opinions automatically are discredited in this thread. (nevermind the picture of the sweet dude w/ the popped collar and shades drinking a beer in your sig)
the original GTO wasn't a "race car" or anything of the sort. it was a normal car for the day, just like today's GTO is/was. the Judge was more of an icon than the regular GTO. they made a mistake of calling it a GTO, but i love how people who don't even like or know older muscle cars pass judgement because the car doesn't represent the original car correctly...

Looking at the title of this thread, I thought it would be about someone who had wrecked or had come other some other duress and now had to part out a GTO.
... what I got was a pissing contest about whether or not it was a good car from some parties who may or may not have the qualification to make such an argument. I have never driven one, but I was impressed enough with the car on paper to actually like it. Unfortunately, it is no longer to be. Life will go on.

Thats pretty sad they had to invest THAT much into modifying a "muscle car" considering the stick price plus mods and a damn little 4 cylinder nissan blew it off the track:ughd:
I agree with bringing back the GTO name plate was cool as hell, but very :ghey: shitty in the way they went about it. The GTO of old was distinct not cookie cutter looks like the econo box. It had a badass drivetrain though. GM is gay with killing name plates. Look at the impala nameplate. For something like 30 or more years Impala was always a midsize/large RWD car that had the badass "SS" option up until 1994 IIRC you could get an LT1 with a little more juice in a sedan with nice rims a body package, and a blacked out grill (etc) now look at the 'impala ss' its POS FWD 6 cylinder:bash:
If you wanna see a good attempt at bringing back an old classic look at Dodge with the charger

+ 1 for all the ignorant people who don't know what these so-called "muscle cars" they are talking about were originally inteded for. 90% of these cars had options for smaller motors because they were the "grocery getters" or "econoboxes" of their day. fucking morons.

Thanx for the contribution to the thread. Noone called the OG GTO a "race car".
And the fact that I'm not a fan of muscle cars has nothing to do with the reasons this car did not make it in this market. Like I said before, thanx for your input:ghey:

I think though the Charger is a better representation (not a fan of the Charger either) of a modern day muscle car. Other thent he fact it has 4 doors. Obviously others think it's a better representation too because it's going to be here in a year and the GTO won't.
