Watch out for capitol expwy in s. san jose around 101. If your car is fixed up you're a likely target, they've got a grip of cops out there waiting for you to roll by and they have a couple of plain car cops that are dressed down w/ video cameras rolling around. They'll pull you over for some bullsh!t excuse and search ur car w/o your permisison. Then they'll look for stuff to tag you for after you been pulled over.

oh and if you have a post pertaining to your local area i guess use the regional thread instead of the general chat or itta get locked. Like my other thread.

i am a victim of these cops. lol... driving down capitol expressway last night going to the albertsons on tully i was pulled over by two cops for my exhaust being to low to the ground(hks). they asked me if i had anything under the hood and asked me to pop it for them. i get out of my car and pop my hood but nothing but a stock KA. So then they start looking at my strut bars real hard and my camber plates trying to figure out if it has anything to do with modding the motor.haha... then they bring me to the back of my car and show me that my exhaust piping is sitting like a inch off the ground and tell me if i get a flat tire i will scrape my exhaust... blah blah blah then they just warn me and send me back on my way. it sucks i guess there catching on to us 240 guys.

I think So.cal is alot more relaxed about cars. My RX-7 is loud as shit and I don't get harassed.

the thing about socal is exactly like the bay area. It all depends on the area your in. In my area of Los Angeles you can get away with hell but you go like 15 minutes and miles east of here aka San Gabriel valley and its another ball game.

Crappy, the DC header should have a carb plate on it. Right? Sheesh, harassment is right. I rarely see cops pulling mustang, camaroes, etc. for their exhausts. And those are louder than ours since they mostly have 2 exhausts...:loco:

A couple nights ago a trans am slammed into a pole on tully near white, when it was raining. And a couple weeks before that a kid died after slamming his integ into a pole on tully by white.

Ive seen so many accidents on Tully/White/Capitol lately, so its a no brainer why cops are on the east side. Last night after coming home from work, the closed off capitol exp right after you get to tully, but i didnt see an accident or anything.

werd the bay is just like socal...
in the city you get away with alot more than you do east bay milpitas/fremont area...
in Socal downtown LA you can do anything you want almost as long as you're not straight up racing, and then in the SGV Alhambra, San Gabriel, MP cops are real asses... just the same in the industry rowland area

just keep it low key and dont do anything to draw attention to yourself... oh and if a cop says he's gonna right you a ticket for tint, let him... just sit there and shut up the more you say even its like the more tickets you'll get...

an exhaust ticket is better than a state ref ticket

just takes one to to ruin it for all of us...honestly..don't feel sorry for the dumb ass in the mustang that died..its his fault and his recklessness that killed himself..not ours..you can call me sick but its shit like that..that makes all of us targets..btw..socal has it worse than norcal..

!Zar!
02-27-2006, 12:21 AM
Socal isn't any worse than norcal. It's the same depending where you go. Both ways no matter where you are, if you car is visualy modded then there is a chance you might be rolled on. But a tip of advice is whenever you are pulled over be as nice as possible. The seconds they are pissed off, chances are you'll be pencil whipped for every infraction possible.

That's the chance that is taken when you purchace exhaust, lower your car, tint your windows. Yes it's not fair but all we can do is either continue to mod our cars or revert back to stock.

fliprayzin240sx

Well its not really socali is worst than norcal, its more like depends on the city your at. SOuth bay sucks cuz Sanjo, fremont, milpitas area had a bad history of streetracing. So the city/cops has been on the look out to prevent shiet from flaring up again like how it was back in the days. I mean just cuz we know how it is out there discourages people from even thinking bout streetracing there. That stigma works for the city...but sucks for us cuz we get targeted even tho were not streetracing.

Im just saying that nocal is heated lately cuz of all the the streetracing fatalities that has happend in less than a month. Its getting alot of news coverage so that means cops are on the hunt to harass/prevent/discourage/scare streetracers from being stupid.

Sucks for that guy driving the CRX who raced that Mustang...I mean dont like racing but shiet, sometimes people just egg you on. You try to have self control but sometimes you just loose it.

Oh yah dunno who went to HIN last nite but i heard SJPD posted up and nail a bunch of people leaving the parking lot. Pulled them over for shiets and giggles, gave out a bunch of Ref tickets and bunch more got towed on the spot for stupid shiet.

Now why whould you say that>? :whip: I've worked on a lot of cars and just because you mod it doesn't mean that it's illegal or else you're talking about several hundered thousand cars or so in the bay area. It's really the people that are doing the street racing that have cause this draw of attention to us and the po-po's being uneducated about these mods that add a cause to throw a red flag.

Looks like Cali is playing hard ball against imports.

Under California law, officers can stop and inspect a vehicle if they reasonably suspect that the
engine has illegal modifications.

Under the expanded state-sponsored effort, about $400,000 each will go to police departments in
Sacramento, Riverside, Ontario, Oakland, Irwindale, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno and Stockton
to pay for operations, educational presentations and training.

Here's the link.
http://www.sacbee.com/content/news/...-15043650c.html

Area motorists beware: If your car is too loud, too low or pumps out too much smog, you face stiff fines in a new crackdown on illegal street racing designed to prevent fatalities and steer young people toward safe, legal raceways.

Also targeted are spectators who show up to watch illegal races, smog shops that OK gross polluting cars and auto parts businesses that install illegal modifications.

The first test case of the new zero-tolerance policy will be the prosecution of Jason Antoine Golson, 22, who is charged with second-degree murder in connection with a fatal street race in Citrus Heights earlier this month. Steve Allen Skattebo, 25, hit a tree and died while racing Golson down Auburn Boulevard on Feb. 2.

Sell It Yourself
California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Frost has inspected the two cars involved for illegal racing modifications and plans to testify as an expert witness on street racing at Golson's trial.

"We have a huge problem in Sacramento since we have extremely high numbers of modified import vehicles," said Frost, who is helping train other CHP officers. "Honestly, I think we've been lucky that we haven't had more street-racing fatalities."

Under California law, officers can stop and inspect a vehicle if they reasonably suspect that the engine has illegal modifications.

Frost spent one recent afternoon patrolling the streets of Carmichael and North Highlands looking for the signs of street racing: a chassis that scrapes the ground, the throaty whirr of a wide exhaust pipe, and racing stickers on the windows.

At a stop on Watt Avenue, Frost asked for more than license, registration and proof of insurance. Like the other 130 officers trained by the Drag-Net program, Frost wanted to get a look under the hood.

He said the 1997 Acura Integra had an illegal air filter, its suspension was too low, and its exhaust system made too much noise. The car's registered owner, who was not present during the stop, will have to keep the car off the street until the state Bureau of Automotive Repairs certifies that the illegal parts have been removed.

Replacing a typical package of illegal modifications and reinstalling stock parts costs an estimated $2,500.

Price is the main reason Misty Arce, 26, hasn't changed anything about her lowered 1994 Honda Del Sol, even though the loud tailpipes and illegally tinted windows have netted her three traffic stops since Thanksgiving, including a citation from Frost.

"Honestly, I don't want to put any more money into it," she said after being pulled over on Walnut Avenue. "I want to get rid of it."

Authorities are banking on responses like Arce's to further tamp down on street racing. Rancho Cordova and the city of Sacramento have passed ordinances barring spectators at illegal street races, with penalties for violators that start at $500 and jump to $1,000 or six months in jail for a repeat offender.

"That's why they street race, to show off. So if there is no one watching, then it may decrease racing," said Sacramento Police Sgt. Michael Cooper, coordinator of the Drag-Net unit.

The drive to wipe out street racing statewide is modeled after a San Diego program started in 2001 when that city recorded 16 deaths and 31 major injuries attributed to street races. During the past two years there have been no street racing deaths.

The California Office of Traffic Safety last year expanded San Diego's program statewide with a $5 million grant to train officers from 75 police agencies to spot after-market racing parts.

"My biggest concern was, 'Oh man, they're going to try and make me a mechanic,' but they show us (what to look for) and I'll be darned if the stuff is not there under the hood," Cooper said.

Under the expanded state-sponsored effort, about $400,000 each will go to police departments in Sacramento, Riverside, Ontario, Oakland, Irwindale, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno and Stockton to pay for operations, educational presentations and training.

The new Drag-Net unit seems to be paying off locally. From October through December, Sacramento police wrote 550 smog and racing citations and towed 35 vehicles. Since January, Davis' five-person auto unit has issued 24 citations for smog violations tied to illegal racing parts. "It's just another tool in our toolbox," said motor officer Rod Rifredi.

Modifying cars for racing, however, remains popular with young people. Jesuit High School junior Michael Lee has spent close to $30,000 souping up his 1995 Nissan 240SX. He says tickets and attention from law enforcement are the cost of his hobby.

"I just see people with lowered cars or exhaust (systems) getting pulled over every day or at least a few times a week," said Lee.

Pajo Bruich, 26, who drives his modified 2003 Nissan 350Z mainly on weekends, thinks targeting street racers is unfair.

"It kind of seems like harassment," he said. "Honestly, you know, it's an innocent thing these kids are doing."

Authorities disagree. A street racing ticket equals two points on your driving record, and sometimes impromptu speed contests turn deadly. Kimberly Marie Wheeler, a single mother from Woodland, was killed when a street racer hit her broadside as she left work last June.

"These are not accidents," said CHP Officer Frost. "They are completely preventable incidents."

Instead of risky races on surface streets, Frost and his colleagues now encourage drivers to use the Sacramento Raceway, where racers can open up the throttle on a quarter-mile track every Wednesday for $8.

"We're trying to come up with a solution to get kids to race on the drag strip, not on the street," said Tony Trimp, who operates the raceway. "We're trying to get into local high schools, but some administrators don't like it because they think it promotes street racing, and I completely disagree. If you can get in there and educate them about it ... it keeps people alive."

This season's first two Wednesday race nights drew more than 1,500 young people who turned out to watch 250 cars compete for the fastest time. While Trimp is thrilled by the turnout, he and authorities want to figure out how to fill the raceway's other 5,500 seats with young people.

They're basically profiling us.

It's like pulling us over cause we're Black.

Not only that, I love how they spin the article to make it sound like they're only rolling on street racers, when in fact theyre just pulling over any car that fits the profile.

Fuck this bullshit, the only reason they get away with this gestapo bullshit is because no one stands up to them

They assume we're fucking guilty. What is this shit, America, or Nazi Germany?

You have to be stupid to think this is Arnold's fault. Prejudice against the "import" crowd has existed since before he even thought about running, and it's far more likely any directives to harass kids came from the local level. Counties have far more direct control and influence over what cops go after than anyone in Sacramento.

If you don't want trouble, there's easy things you can do:

1. Buy a beater. Drive that to work/school. A $1000 Volvo or some shit makes you fuckin bulletproof AND cop-proof. Fly down the street at 150mph and no one even blinks.

2. If you do drive your 240, don't drive like a mother fucking ass hole, don't speed, don't race, don't cut people off, signal, etc. Follow the mother fucking vehicle code.

3. If you have the time and the inclination, get a volunteer job or internship in some sort of law enforcement/criminal justice system in your local area. Meet a shitload of cops, buy 'em food, be nice, become their friends. When the patrolmen in the area are all your drinking buddies, who's gonna pull you over now?

4. If you do get pulled over, say as little as possible, comply with all directives respectfully. Learn your rights. They can stop you with reasonable suspicion (specific and articulable facts) of a vehicle code violation. Even if they arrest you, they can only search your driver and passenger compartment. They need probable cause of further criminal activity to get into your trunk or engine bay. If you step out of the car, they can frisk you but they cannot open any containers on your body. they cannot pull it out of your pocket unless it seems like an known weapon (Gun, knife, club, etc...not nunchucks.)

5. Go to law school and eventually work for the district attorney. You'll be invincible.
