Pointless without a Mod list for each car. For all we know that could be a stock SR vs. Fully Built MR2. Anyway, no one ever said the SR is the ultimate, unbeatable engine, and if they did..They're STUPID!

no, it just looks like the 240 driver fell asleep at the wheel, the mr2 was 1.5 car lengths ahead before the 240 even started rolling. once they were at speed, it didn't look like the mr2 was pulling away at all.

it also depends if the MR2 turbo engine was 1st gen, 2nd gen or 3rdgen. The 2nd gen is rated above the SR in stock HP by about 15hp and the 3rd gen comes in at a whopping 265HP. Given that, its not a fair race, unless like ThatGuy says the mods are completely equal.
Face it guys, most MR2 guys hate 240's and most 240 guys are out to prove the 240 is better. Fact is its Apples and Oranges. Big differences in the cars, do not make them comparable in anything but barely a drag race. Even then, there are factory differences that play into the equation like I said.

And Mr2's hold a rather signifigant advantage in getting the power down because of the mid engine layout having so much weight over the drive wheels. 1.7 60' times aren't out of the question on normal street tires in an lsd equipped MR2, a 240 would need drag radials to equal or better that in most cases.

Just a little background for you on the MR2's - the first gen. motor only came in the first gen. body style. There are two second gen. turbo motors, one being a US model 3S-GTE and the other being JDM like most cars the JDM turbo motor has more power. Then the 3rd gen. motor with a better turbo the CT20B.

I'm not 100% sure but aren't MR2s lighter than S13s? that could also give MR2s and advantage.

No, in typical Toyo fashion, they are heavier than you might think. 2800-3000 lbs from memory and depending on options etc. They look like 2300 lb cars, but as with the supra, they made as much out of iron as they could :)

i drove a 92 MR2 Turbo for 2 years before I bought my s14 which is SR powered. And I will say that you can launch an MR2 incredibly hard due to the MR layout. It gives almost the same advantage having an AWD gives. And like what as said before. the MR2 could have been 2nd or 3rdgen. (3rd gen being 245hp).

Yeah seems like the guy who drove the 240 cant launch at all. Technically the race should have been alot more even.

1.7 60 foot on street tires...That is a fun idea!

MR2's are incredibly hard to work on. My friend just wrecked his and everything has a been a bitch to fix so far. I'd think an MR2 and a 300zx TT are about the same in difficulty......a pain in the ass!

Almost everything engine related on a mr2 is a pain due to the cramped space. Whoever thinks working on them is easy, either has lots of time to work on it, or has no idea what they are talking about.

MR2's are far from easy to work on... I have worked on many and they are a pain in the ass. The 3s can make a ton of power just as you would expect from the same company that made the 2j... early cars ( 1st and 2nd gen motors ) need the engine managment changed to do it along with the obvious turbo/ic/fuel upgrades as they had antiquated management with shitty flap door air flow meters, the 3rd gen cars can do 280-300 whp with simple bolt ons and are very smooth compared to the earlier motors due to the improvements to almost everything in the engine but most importantly to the turbo/ecu/fuel system. But bottom ends are good to 500+ whp, but not so the trannys. Fun cars though when sorted. My brother still has one, it's a 93 solar yellow with 70k on it and a 3rd gen swap, very rare and quite clean..... but he is looking to sell and buy an S13 :)
